Tape for restoring old Igarashi motors

Post by V12 »

Actually I own a good collection of old brushed motors, but there is not a single Igarashi based motor which comes with the tape to hold the endbell.
Now I have a couple of projects for such Igarashi based motors but I wonder which tape would be correct.
I´m not interested in tape which 'could' do the job, but tape what looks identical to the tape used at old Reedy 05 or similar motors.

I've got a black roll from Trinity and I think it's just PVC tape.

is there a particular color? For black, 1/4" wide automotive pinstripe tape is very similar to original. it's also very similar to what Novak used for receiver cases.

Search for Mylar tape. Black, gold, or silver. 1/4" or 3/8".

Living in Europe it seems Mylar tape is not that easy to find.
I have seen something what seems to be similar or same as Mylar but wide is 12 mm.

Today I found one of my Trinity motors which also uses black tape. It is 1/4".
But I have seen others up to 12mm or 1/2".
It also seems there have not been one certain tape for this job.

Searching for the specs of Mylar tape it seems this was especially made for withstanding high temperatures. What makes sense for the motors as well.
But I also have motors which came with some sort of gaffer tape.
