I've considered that for a couple of different builds. It would be an excuse to use my tubing bender again. It looks like I should be fine going to my standard bellcranks. I just need to dig up a set of 4 bearings for them.

Ok, ready for nose tubes. They will be a little longer than standard gold pan tubes, but not be much.

All tubed up. Just need to get a servo saver and paint up a body shell.

I really like how this turned out, but I've recently gotten some inspiration to take it a bit further (plus it needs a body) .

I also ended up getting the real (but significantly modified) AE coffin chassis that I took measurements from for making this chassis. Trimmed, shortened, drilled, trimmed, drilled, shortened, trimmed some more... but I still really wanted it. Eventually it will get it's own build. For the restoration I'm not sure yet if i want to fill holes and recoat it black, just fill holes, or use as is. Other than having been disrespected with all the permanent modifications it is in pretty nice, glossy condition with minimal run damage.

Think the nose was trimmed up to run a T bulkhead ?
Super strange that the servo mount holes are absent.

The 2 outer front holes do fit the RC10T bulkhead, but just those 2. I'm guessing that additional holes could have been added to the bulkhead for screws with backing nuts. I didn't even think about the missing servo mount holes. There's some scarring from steering servos that were taped on having been pried off, so it was definitely run without servo mount blocks.

I am not well-versed in the history of the RC10 chassis options. What is the significance of the "coffin" chassis?

The coffin chassis was a small run of the RC10 Graphite. Take a look starting at this post:

The extra holes in the back make some sense to me now….
Looks like it was trimmed in the front and everything in the back was moved back to get the wheelbase closer to an RC10T

Edit : I just noticed the pic that you overlayed it on yours, now I see the back was trimmed shorter and everything back there was moved forward. Makes sense why the square cut the back end of the middle. Now I’m confused again

How many of these were made? Why did the chassis go away? I do recall folks swapping graphite cars back to aluminum tubs BITD. Is that why it went away?

There is also the story of Kinwald doing back to back testing between the ally tub and the graphite chassis (not sure if that was the coffin or the reg graphite) and declaring that the tub was quicker.

The coffin chassis RC10 Graphite is a rare buggy, one that I never expect to own (other than my Swiss cheese chassis 😁) which is why I was excited to have my flat plate chassis version made. My buggy should never be mistaken for the original and that wasn't the intention, but should be recognizable as a tribute/clone of the original. I don't think there is much production information available about the coffin chassis RC10 Graphite. I just know that it's weird and I like it.

Very cool indeed!

So the coffin came first? Do we know the thinking behind it's design? Maybe they made it narrow to be as light as possible, but then the bodies didn't fit snug and the car packed with dirt?
