Nevermind. I found enough random pics to put something together.
Interesting sign of the times looking at the various pics of the relatively same battery. Modern versions tell you to recycle or dispose of properly .................. old versions tell you not to throw them in fire.

Well, stickers came out okay except for two things. I don't know how to spell rechargeable

and the paper is way too glossy. Apparently, clear matte sticker paper is difficult to find, but I will come up with something.

This is just a printable matte white vinyl sheet printed with a typical inkjet printer. The actual color is much more red than the pic came out. I have a little work to do, but this is fulfilling my basic requirement of looking like a vintage sub-c battery from 2-3' away while using a modern mah NiMH cell.

I was sticking with the red Cadnicas on this one because I thought red with black text would be easier to work with for some reason, but was failing to find a covering that I really liked that I could put a sticker on, and nothing printable was working at all. Then I ran across these on a search for some other batteries:

They aren't as yellow as I wish they were in real life, but whatever. The tabs that come on them are too small and too short for side-to-side placement, so they have to go. But with some simple red stickers, these start to look like authentic packs from ~3' away, which is all that I am looking for out of batteries for shelfies. They will fail closer examination, but that isn't really the point. I now have a cheap and almost endless supply of Sanyo Cadnicas for the shelf cars.
EDIT: I just realized I never fixed the "rechargable" situation!

Oh well.................
