Finally got around to restoring this....body still has to be done.
Went with a new vintage Parma wiper speed control with brake and scored and original M480RS motor....this was me and the Diamond One's 1st ever rc back in 86' so it's way up there on our list

I never owned a Big Bear, but totally remember them around when I was a kid!

That looks great! I recently picked up a bear that looked great. Once I arrived I found out the seller was pulling a sneaky. Gonna take a while to find a set of tires for it.

Oh, and yeah- the big grizzly is a prime example of “never meet your heroes”. What a steaming pile- it’s one of my only runners and I only use it in the snow where I know I won’t trash the gears. I love it, but it’s terrible.

Lol, I hear you...true if the tires aren't good on the BigBear u will spend another $300 looking for one that might have a decent set, luckily mine are good!

$300 bucks?? Wow, didn't know a set of tires for the Bear is that high nowadays! My friend had one back in Jr. High and he went through a gear set rather quickly. After that, he babied it.. I ran circles around him with my Turbo Optima to tease him!

Lookin good so far and I like the fact you chose the old school wiper speedo!

Marui set of tires can be quite expensive those times... And you are lucky when you find a car with wheels which were properly stored...
That said, I know some people doing miracles with old craqued tires (it would work fine for the shelf but not for running...

I can understand for the Brushless being an issue to keep a car in the mood of the eighties... That said, brushless have an enormous advantage: well geared, it doesn't heat. And with those plastic gearbox, if you run it is quite important.
That said, one thing that I noticed when tackling my Big Bear is that current range of 540 is slightly larger in diameter than plain old ones : I splitted a gearbox due to this with a 540 silver can...

Built this cool 7 cell pack...got rid of that hideous lipo...i ran it!....runs strong....body next...that Parma msc is the !...so smooth

Are you running a 4 cell battery pack for the servos? I don't see it.
If not, your Big Bear might need a Little Pee Pee.

That is cool..i.have 7 cells with a diode backing voltage down to receiver
