This is my actual first hobby grade RC. It was a great truck. I later got my RC10T, and then sold this Hawk to my cousin. A couple of years ago, he gave it back!
I've been wanting to rebuild it, but first I wanted to find new wheels and tires. That took a long time, but I finally managed to find both. I love the look of the Hawk's wheels and tires.
Besides the wheels and tires, I am planning to keep as many original pieces as possible. I know they look really rough now, but I think they will clean up well.
Unfortunately, the original body is long gone. I would like to find a new one, but TBG is probably what I will end up with.

Re: Traxxas Hawk rebuild
A Hawk was also my first performance oriented hobby grade RC it was the vehicle I traded for my first Losi. I would love to get ahold of one again sometime down the line but the time just never seems right... Maybe I can find someone who wants to trade one for a vintage Losi to go full circle lol
Your base looks great, it has managed to avoid the purple rit dye which is awesome

Re: Traxxas Hawk rebuild
Very cool that it's your actual truck from way back when. Looking forward to the progress, as I've always kinda wanted to get one of these (or a Hawk 2) to do a rebuild. I've kept an eye out for some time now and have actually passed on a couple that looked like good candidates for a rebuild.
The Hawk 2 was my bro's first hobby grade and that's the reasoning why I've wanted to get one. But he kind of bummed me out a little bit ago when he said he remembered the truck actually sucked and he would never care to have one again. He even did a bunch of upgrades to it back then circa '93; the graphite chassis, carbon fiber shock towers (maybe it came with those towers if they weren't plastic), full bearings, aluminum shocks, HPI super star wheels, Nitro Hawk body, Trinity Monster Horsepower Joel "Magic" Johnson signature motor with purple heat sinks. He said he remembered it sucked compared to my FXT, a friend's RC10T and another friend's RC10 Team buggy (which was way faster than any one of us at the time, because he had dad's money and experience backing him). I don't remember it being bad at all, I thought it was awesome. Regardless they're still rad looking old school trucks.
