Transponders and ESCs

Post by 1911Colt »

I last raced in the mid-90s. I got back into RC cars a few years ago with vintage stuff (which to me is just stuff  ). I might try racing again, or at least do practice days.

Are transponders universal or do I need to go to the local track(s) to see which specific one they use?

The ESCs I have are an LRP Flow, a couple of Reedy 1000s, and a Reedy 800z. Assuming they are paired with a motor they can handle, does it matter which one I run? Are there restrictions on which ESC can be used in various classes? Are there "stock" and "mod" ESCs? Do they all have "blinky" mode? Do they all need "blinky" mode? When I raced, the ESC was wide open as long as it didn't have reverse.

I am thinking I will start in an open class just so I don't trip over some rule I don't yet understand.

Most transponders are universal, but I would always check with your local track to see what system they use first just in case.

If the track supplies house transponders they are usually self powered and nothing else is needed except a hole in the body.

Most of the personal transponders just power from a free channel (or batt) port from your receiver. Generally the AMB and MyLaps transponders are compatible but sometimes issues arise with the MRT transponders.
