Modified Duratrax shocks

I got these Duratrax long shocks in a parts lot a little while ago. They're in really good condition but as a lot of people here know, they have only one o-ring seal to stop the oil from leaking out. Hence the nickname "Duraleaks". They're going to be used, so I machined the inside housing at the bottom of each shock 1.8mm longer to accept a second o-ring. Turned out really well. Should be almost as good as Kyosho golds.

I have a set of the short fronts on one of my cars. I used a modern X ring instead and haven't had any issues.

Cool. I thought about doing that but really wanted the second o-ring in there.

That's smart Chris, good job. With the 2nd o-ring you also minimise piston rub on the shock body and side pressure on the shock shaft.

Thanks RJ, the o-rings are spaced apart with a thick spacer in between. I think I'll make some pistons out of Acetal.

Several companies offer higher quality ones. Tamiya even has a couple different hardness options.

Thanks! Will get the ones you’ve listed if they do help with the leak protection

Yes. It is a snug fit in the cap but it does fit.
