I've gotten it into my head that I want something for some pavement bashing that handles best on pavement.
I originally wanted a pan car, but the pavement I have access to is broken.

It looks like LOTS have happened for the in-between buggies and pan cars since 1989.

The DS seems like an obvious fit given I already have a collection of RC10 parts. But I have some options and questions.
For my options, I have a rc10t4 and a 6 gear rc10 that are not being used. Either of them could be donors for a conversion.

There is really a lot I don't know.

DS questions
Will DS front or rear arms fit on RC10 mounting blocks?
Are the DS rear axles the same as 9670 the rc10b4 RTR rear axles?

What wheels and tires work? It looks like a hex conversion is needed. Is the front hex the rc10b4.2 or the sc10?
Are the VTA tires going to work, or would touring tires be needed?

How far off is a short arm rc10 from a DS? Could I just install the hex conversion,tires rc10 DS rear tower, .56 shocks on the rear, springs, and call it a day? Would the caster be way to much?

The T4 would be easiest. Put some street tires on, limiters in the shocks, and stiffer springs.

It is a short arm car with hex conversion. It uses wide offset RPM crawler wheels and rear sized tires all around. It is lowered, has very limited shock travel, and stiff springs.

Your short arm conversion was on my mind when thinking about this. It looks to me the short arm is similar to the DS in width. Have you explored the touring car/VTA tires?


Does the width of the platform matter, the t4 would be very wide? Wouldn't the ride height be high even when lowered, or is there a way to lower the center of gravity?

A short arm car is wider than a DS and the whole front is completely different. My car is just over 10" wide.

I consider the VTA's when I built it but they are smaller diameter than I wanted.

There is a black RC10 with VTA's somewhere on the web. It also uses a dirt oval type suspension. I thought it just looked weird.



The T4 has enough suspension travel to scrub the ground, it can be lowered enough.

In the 90's, there were onroad conversions for the 10T. There wasn't anything particularly special about them.

Here's my on road T4 for example. Width is 11.5" compared to the original T4 13" width. The chassis has 3/4" ground clearance, it can go lower but I'm comfortable with it being the way it sits. It has 2.2" buggy wheels in lieu of truck wheels. Shocks are B4 factory team threaded with Associated red truck springs (3.90 lb front / 2.95 lb rear). The one photo is it next to my factory team T4. It sits 3/4" lower than the T4 FT and a full 1" lower than my T4.3.

that looks promising. How is it narrower?

Because of the buggy wheels.
