WOIO build

There ain't nothing new about it. Even different is still old. But whatever.

I got the idea of using the RPM Bandit arms from one of Niki's builds but decided to approach the steering differently.

Truck nose plate, cut down and tapped for use on a buggy.

Worlds bellcranks. That little spacer is much easier to align without everything in the way.

Truck bulkhead and RPM Bandit arms. The Bandit uses 1/8" hinge pins, same as the RC10. I think the inner pins are standard 10T parts, they were in my junk box. I also used a RPM mini bumper.

For the caster and steering blocks, I chose Traxxas parts. I used RPM caster blocks for a Slash and modified them to fit (in hindsight, Bandit parts would drop in). I had the steering blocks and bearings laying around. The hinge pins are Bandit VXL parts, also laying around. The kingpins are from STRC. It uses Bandit axles and 5.5mm hexes.

I chose these parts because they are much narrower than AE parts, keeping the front with within spec (248mm).

The rear of the car uses more common parts.

Robinson Racing "Tracker", adjustable rear mounts and Andy's arms.

I have some #7367 rear carriers for it, instead of these regular ones. But I'm out of that particular bearing.

The car uses hex wheels all around. I used Factory Works rear hexes.

The rear wheels are Traxxas 7171's for the 1/16 E-Revo and the Fronts are from Avid (B5 offset).
Screenshot_20220323-164808_Gallery.jpg
The rear tires are Schumacher Mini Spikes and the fronts are JConcepts Rips.

The wheels clear the arms at full lock, at ride height. Under compression, they do touch at full lock. Narrow wheels would probably cure this.

Here it is for now. The transmission is a basic Stealth (no mods). It has a truck shock tower for mock up but I'll get Jeff to make some new ones.

That's an interesting blend of front suspension parts and I should try to remember this build for future reference.
Thanks for taking time to show us all the details. :D
I started a similar WOIN project a while back but I was planning to make custom printed arms. I see now that's not necessary.

Here is Niki's build, it uses long arms all around.

Great build, Thanks for posting it. I'm hoping to do the same. Will you finish it off and post? I'm curious about the shocks and towers you will fit to it. Also are those rear hexes 1/4" and still available? Thanks

Absolutely. The main parts that I still need are the shock towers and body. I already have most everything else.

I have AE hard anodized shocks for it, 1.32 rear and 1.02 front. They'll have big bore springs are aluminum bleeder caps.

The towers will be from Factory Works. The front will be a RPM Worlds tower and the rear will be the A&L Team tower. I use that rear tower a lot, I like the open design.

Yes, and yes. They are also from Factory Works.

You can go through the website, Ebay store, or just contact Jeff by PM here.

Here are the shocks and most of the parts. I still need rear springs and upper adapters. The blue will also be stripped from the bleeder caps.

These are the same type towers, as seen on other cars of mine.

This is the motor that I plan on using. I'm still undecided on which esc and receiver to put in it. The blue matches the motor and adds some color to the car. However, the Yokomo and Hitec Shredder are just plain cool.

Question about the Traxxas 7171 rear wheels. Do they have the right offset, or do the shorten or lengthen the rear wheelbase. Thanks again

Yes, the offset is correct. It might not be exactly the same as original but it falls within spec.

And it's track width, not wheelbase. Wheelbase is front to rear.

I also have these two cars with the same rear wheels and hexes. Both of these have JConcepts RC10 front wheels.

Yes "track width" thanks. Always been just a backyard basher, never had a local track in my parts. Keep up the builds, always look forward to see what you have in store.

Not too much going on here (working on five different projects, along with misc. stuff). But I did get some new Factory Works towers and transmission brace, as well as making new nose tubes.

I really like the A&L rear tower (I have five!). The open design looks good and makes passing wires through easy.

Well, I changed my mind about the shocks.

I was looking through my shock parts box and seen some shocks and caps that were in poor looking condition. So I decided to have a try at stripping and polishing them.

They should look good with black plastics and big bore springs.

Got a little bit done on this one.

Got the shocks built and mounted. These springs are just placeholders. I have the big bore springs and cups, just need the upper locators.

The Robinson Racing Tracker rear mount uses the long wheelbase holes. Instead of using spacers on the shocks to reduce the angle, I decided to reverse mount them instead.

Also swapped the rear tires for some LRP Kamikaze 10s.

Got the body trimmed as well.
Screenshot_20220614-161348_Gallery.jpg
I chose the JConcepts Detonator for a few reasons:
- The lines of the Detonator bodies trims nicely with the RPM Worlds front tower.
- I already have two cars with the Detonator Worlds body, this one would be a little different.
- The mix of vintage and current styles seems perfect for this car.
