antenna length, mounting and other questions

So I recently got a new Neo Fighter with a new radio. I have been out of the hobby for a number of years. When I got the receiver, I noticed the antenna wire was WAY shorter than my old receivers of my youth. I was wondering is it ok to tuck this long-wise on the cars body or do I still need to use the straws that you thread the antenna through still? Those things were always the first thing to pop off it seemed with the car and if I can get away without having to use one, that would be quite nice :-D

Not at all. The 2.4g signal really only requires you to have the antenna mounted away from other metal objects. You could use a shorty antenna tube, or on some cars I use a scrap piece of lexan and tape the antenna to it and tape to the servo or other flat spot and bend the lexan so it folds up, and when the body goes on it lays up in the cab area. Just use caution the wire is very small and fragile.

yeah, I am hoping I can just tape it to the inside of the body tub and skip on the antenna tube.

Just for future folk who take a look at this thread:

new school short antenna did not need the straw. I just tucked it along the chassis and the car drove further than my eyes worked, so I am set. :-D
