Schottky Diode In Rx Wiring?

Anyone know why there would be a schottky diode on the power side of my Rx? Is it just an interference thing? I am curious if it is somehow a voltage thing, because I am not sure if I can throw 7.2v directly at the FP-R2H Rx. I haven't been able to find specs for it yet.

Edit: Forgot pic

That isn't a BEC receiver. Even if the receiver happened to survive it, you would need high voltage servos.

I wouldn't do it.

The diodes were used to cut the voltage, .7v per diode. On a RC10 6 cell setup you used one diode, for 7 cell you use two. Strangely enough, on the 1/12 scale cars they used two diodes for 6 cell. Aiming for the side of caution, I like the two diodes.

There were also BEC’s available. Nowadays I’d buy a BEC since they are cheap and waste less power.

Thanks guys. I found a CC BEC in my stash, so I may try to hide that in the chassis somehow. It is two wire in and three wire out with a servo plug on it though, so need to figure that out.

The three wire out is likely because it’s cheaper and easier to just buy the leads ready to go. The signal wire does nothing and can be clipped off.

I didn’t see your pic the first time around, that is a voltage regulator which some companies such as Kyosho sold instead of using a diode. Typically there is a little more to the circuitry but it’s output will be 5v (or whatever value you buy)

You may have nailed that observation perfectly, down to the manufacturer. :D There is a good chance that was pulled from an early 80s Kyosho rig that I have.

I ran 6v through that circuit earlier to determine which servo was which, and it worked fine. I will pump 7.2v through it a little later and hope that regulator kicks it down enough.

I used voltage regulators just like that back in the day , I'd give it a heat sink of some sort if you can even if it's just cable tied to a chassis rail etc , I learnt about them when the Schottky diode on my Hotshot blew and Basic Electronics our local Aladdins cave of electrical bobbins had never heard of a Schottky or Dropping diode's but sold me a voltage regulator instead .
