Another ebay rescue

Picked up another ebay heap. This one is in somewhat better condition than the last one. At least it isn't covered in glue.

This one came with two sets of Losi wheels but the truck has 1/4" axles. It also had mismatched steering blocks and axles. So a hex conversion will likely be cheaper and easier than finding the correct parts.

The steering is cobbled together from mismatched parts as well. Fortunately, I still have the original setup from my Team Truck (has MIP on it now).

I haven't disassembled the transmission yet but it feels smooth. The slipper needs the correct spring, thrust washer, and a new disc. It also needs a correct spur and the correct screws.

I don't recognize the front shocks. They are very small bore and use a bladder, with a two piece cap. Regardless, I think that I have a set of 1.02 gold shocks laying around.

The rear shocks are obviously Associated shocks, but they are silver. Not the dark grey like the Team shocks and not bare aluminum either. They just look like gold shocks that are anodized silver instead. It seems like I remember some other people asking about something like this before.

It also came with a few other goodies. A Pure-Tech battery strap/mounts, a Kyosho 360 Mega motor, and several pinions on a holder.

I saw that truck on ebay but it needed too many parts for me. Interested to see what you do with it.

Considering it's overall condition, I'll likely just make a runner out of it.

If I didn't already have a bunch of takeoff parts and spares, I might have been a little more hesitant. Luckily, it went cheaper than I expected.

Since all of my stuff has 1/4" axles, I have no use for the 3/16" axle wheels. That was a little disappointing, but they are rough anyway.

The mismatched steering blocks will just become spares, as I have cars with both types.

The pics on Ebay showed an old silver can, then it showed up with the Kyosho motor. So, not too bad.

Front shocks look to be Kyosho Sport shocks, but without the adjustable top spring mount - you turned the top collar, and it compressed the springs further away from that bump in the shock body.

I wasn't familiar with base Kyosho shocks, so I did some searching. They look like rears for a Ultama II.

Hopefully you don’t fall down the Restoration rabbit hole like I have and can keep it just a runner :D great start, looking forward to seeing the progress.

The rear shocks look hard anodized. They can be very light silver. The coloring of them are all over the map. almost bright silver to dark grey to deep olive green.

Trust me, that isn't happening. Out of five RC10 buggies and four 10T's, only one of them is a "nice" car. And it isn't a restoration, but a powder coated chassis and mostly new parts. Several of my cars are "clean" runners, but they still have scratches, nicks, and mismatched/aftermarket parts.

Okay.

All of the other ones that I have are dark grey. It must just be a batch thing, as I have ones from across several years.

Well, this is how it sits at the moment. I haven't bought anything for it, just cleaned what was there or dug through my spare junk.

The transmission internals were perfect, I just cleaned and lubed everything. I found a 87T spur and some slipper parts as well.

The truck came with dogbones and axles that are in okay-ish condition. But I had an extra set of universals, so I used them instead. Truthfully, I'm running low on dogbone springs and need all the ones that I have.

The battery cup, bellcranks, body mount, and turnbuckles are also from the spare box.

I have a set of gold 1.02 shocks for the front but need some new shafts.

Next up is the parts for the hex conversion and some wheels.

Got all the shocks built.

Apparently shafts for 1.02 shocks are difficult to come by. But while building shocks for another project, I noticed that newer 27.5 shafts are almost an exact match. I had some new springs, along with new ends and spring loacators.

I cleaned and reassembled the rears with new o rings. The shafts aren't the typical chrome finish. They look to be coated, with a blue-grey colored finish.

Looking sweet! RE: dogbone springs, I have that exact issue where I don’t have any and was curious if anyone had ideas, current I cut rubber fuel line just to keep mine from falling out but am starting to wonder if the springs from a cheap pen might work

I can tell you that spring from a Bic pen is too large.

I just bought these on ebay. That is the same measurements that I got from a new set.

I got these in today. They are a perfect match to the originals.
