First off. Big thanks to Alex, LoboNYC for parting with one of his super cool Paris dish O.S. conversion kits. Always hooking me up!!!

Started of with a good little CZ11, and the donated conversion kit
Everything you need to rebuild an engine minus bearings. I replaced the front bearing with a dynamite super seal. Forgot to stick it in the picture.
Everything came apart decent. And cleaned up decent enough. Wish I would’ve had some pipe cleaners. But in reality to sit in a box or on a chassis someday it came out clean enough.
Check out the cross hatch on the cyl liner. Never noticed that before.
I had a lightweight 3 shoe Duratrax flywheel so it went in for the heck of it. A big part of what I enjoy about nitro stadium trucks is how cool the engines themselves look. I need to figure out a way to display all of my engines. I enjoy looking at a clean engine as much as a complete car sometimes.

That back plate and flywheel are a sweet touch to the engine.

That back plate on the engine is the icing on the cake in my opinion. Two thumbs up.

Wow, I didn't know such a kit existed. Sometime in the next year I plan on rebuilding/modding a .12 CZ-R engine, and have been collecting parts. I've been trying to find a red heatsink such as the one that came in that kit. I bought a NIB one I thought might fit but it arrived damaged. Anyway, it came out looking great!

What method did you use to remove/install the bearings?

The rear bearing tapped out pretty easily when I tapped on the tip of the crank with the back end of a screwdriver. A little soaking in alcohol and a tiny flathead I was able to get it moving then it slid right off.

The front bearing, probably not the most ideal way, but I knew it’d work. I stuck the crank in from the front. And worked the bearing back and forth gently while pulling. Probably helped the crank was still a little gummy so it gave it tons of grip while side loading. By no means was I cranking on the bearing in a crazy way though just little by little.

I use a heat gun, the bearings just fall out when smacking the block gently on a wood table. I reinstall the same way.

I know the “right way”, but I don’t have the patience sometimes.

Last year I removed the bearings from an engine for the first time. I decided on the hot plate method so I bought one, and did it that way. It was nerve-racking as I didn't use the right type on purpose. You're supposed to use the cast iron variety and place the engine directly on it. I bought an infrared ceramic glass one as they're supposed to be much better, and I felt I would use it for other things. As a result, I put a baking sheet on it, and then placed the engine on that. The baking sheet didn't transfer the heat very well or smoothly, and I had to crank up the heat higher than I was comfortable with to get the engine up to the right temperature window. I actually burned all the finish off the middle of the baking sheet, and even warped it. Breathing those fumes in probably wasn't the best thing ever.

Anyway, after getting the engine hot enough, I picked it up with an oven mitt, Pushed the shank end of a drill bit through the rear bearing until it came into contact with the backside of the front bearing, and banged the engine/drill bit combo down against a block of wood to knock the bearing out. I then heated the engine back up to the right temperature, picked it up again (minus the drill bit) and kept banging the back of the engine onto the block of wood until the rear bearing fell out.

I used this method with another identical engine, and it worked great both times with zero damage to the cases. I have yet to attempt the reinstallation of new bearings but will be trying the freezer method. That's where you place the bearings in the freezer, and when they're cold enough, heat the case up, and push them in.

Freezing the bearings works perfect....they will drop right in....i just did it on a .12CV

Been meaning to get to this but kept forgetting when I wasn’t busy.

Labeled as a CV part but looks the same as a CZ in the combustion part. The CV bolt pattern is rotated 45° From a CZ but it still has plenty of clearance for a filter. Dropped it on a spare CZ for demonstration.

U gonna run that Ron Paris unit? curious if its BIG balls!

Hey man.... Did I hear crawler days? I can only recall your speed days when you were going for land speed records with the huge pinion and spur gear combos.

What kinda crawler did you run?

I started and won that series with an Axial AX10. I switched to a bully and did even better. Circumstances caused me to miss a couple events and a few other bad runs prevented me from another podium. I had scalers here and there but was never serious about competing with those. This was my CJ5 I scratchbuilt.
