Dudgeon #3

I’m starting this build with a ton of misc parts I bought from DHood many years ago. Saw the Andy’s painted body on eBay and liked the scheme so I snatched it up. And also a big thanks to Todd at Vintage RC Parts for copying some damaged/extra hole parts in carbon for me. I need to look into an anodizer to separate this truck from the others. Just decided to throw some parts together to get an idea how it’s going to look.

I haven’t decided 100% on the color I’d like to anodize but I was leaning towards simple black. Somewhat of a modern twist on a retro truck with all black aluminum and all the carbon pieces. I need to scrounge up enough stuff to make it worth my while though so it’s not such an expense for just a few parts. I’ve only looked very briefly online but it looks like it’s about $100 minimum.

Looks great, I quite like the way the gold head ties in with the yellow body.

Picked up a new engine, couldn’t beat the price. And will fit the style of the build better when I start anodizing and coloring. It’s going to sting anodizing the McCoy pipe. But oh well. I’ve got another. Been keeping an eye out for a donor truck but they’ve been fetching more than I’d like to spend at the moment. Hard to justify buying pieces part by part at the going rate.

I know. It seems like prices for everything have doubled (or more) this year.

I wouldn’t mind doing a black main chassis and gold accent pieces. I’d have to really stretch to find stuff to color just to color though as that would definitely bump up the cost.

What I think bothers me more is when they are charging let’s say $29 for a regular $3 part. Then, it’s $9+ in shipping for an item that fits in a a bubble mailer. Not even cross country or international. From two states away.

This Dudgeon conversion is wicked man.
i still remember when these were being raced in the Bronx.
how i wished i had the bucks back then to get a RC10T and the conversion kit.
I couldn't justify it so i got the Traxxas nitro hawk...but as soon as Associated released the GT I plunked down my cash and walked away!
Still have that GT today.
Love the Andy's body! Are you going to mount black suspension arms on her?

I didn’t even realize these existed until joining this forum. I think they’re awesome cars and without them who knows when or how Associated would have made their first GT.
I remember your first GT and the first time I saw it on the crawler forum.

Your right...they were awesome and i think very important as well. A part of RC history because it pushed Associated to design their own Nitro truck.

Still waiting on the right deal for a donor truck. In the meantime I colored some of the white parts black, and custom cut a narrow tower from carbon to clear the team body. Such a big mess from such a small piece.

In the process of bringing this project back to life. Got sunk into another build that’s nearing completion, purchase wise.
I started sanding the chassis more now that I’m on a better lead to an anodizer. I went over the whole thing with some WD40 and a Brillo pad to just clean it up. I took the top down to a wet sand 3000 grit and it’s near a factory finish in 90% of the chassis. A few more scratches I think I can still get out though.
