mini servo for steering

Post by radioactivity »

Trying to decide on a mini servo for steering and not break the bank.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Chuck.
You might take a look at Hitec HS-225MG. It's small, metal gear, ball bearing, 67 oz/in and 0.11 sec at 6 volts.

I put about the cheapest micro servo I could find in hirobo zerda, from wreck to runner. Works and hasn't bust yet. So cheap it won't hurt if I have to replace it. Bought on ebay.

Thanks for the input guys

Herein lies the rub, literally. In the pic I already massaged the servo horn and mount a little.

I like the Hitec but the width only gains me about 1.65mm of clearance. Hitec states 16.7mm and the servo I have is 20.1mm.
After more careful measuring I may want something more like 3mm . The overlapping of the nosepiece on the chassis raises the servo about 2.5mm causing the interference.
So looking at servos of 15mm or less. So far Spektrum @ 14.7mm (A5040, A5060), they gain me 2.7mm. Plus another $10-20.
Savox SV1250mg is in the running @15mm..
Opinions Savox vs Spektrum? Or something else?

I have no experience with Savox or Spektrum but I once fitted a Futaba S3114 to my B2. It's 11mm high, high torque and fast but with plastic gears I really didn't expect it to survive and it didn't.
Hitec makes a similar sized servo, HS-5055MG, which is 11.6mm and has metal gears but it seems rather slow and weak. I'm using this one as a shifting servo in a crawler.
