I’ve got a couple quick questions about carpet racing if someone can help me out.

I’ve never raced on a carpet track, but a new track opened up nearby and I’d like to give it a shot.

One of their requirements is that the chassis have a chassis skin that covers the screws on the bottom of the chassis. Is this a requirement at all carpet tracks? This is to protect the carpet from getting snagged/ripped up I assume? All the chassis skins I’ve seen on eBay have all the screw holes cut out which seemingly defeats the purpose. Is there some universal roll of stick on material I’m supposed to use?

chassis skins with holes make maintenance easier, but defeat the purpose of having them on a carpet track. As you mentioned, they are required to keep screws from backing out and snagging the carpet. As far as I know, all carpet tracks require them, as well as turf tracks, and is usually part of tech inspection. You do not need to spend money on expensive chassis skins. The tape shown in the pic works fantastic, makes a bulletproof protector for any chassis including a vintage you dont want to scratch, leaves no residue when you remove it and is fairly inexpensive. This does add a tiny bit of weight to your car, but most modern carpet cars need weight added to pass tech and the bottom of the chassis is the perfect place to add it for low cog. The gold flashy stuff you see on the bottom of my B6 is some thin light self adhesive material I found on ebay. I bought a pack of them and cut them to the shape of my chassis. They serve no real purpose as a chassis protector since they are too thin, but work perfect as a skin for carpet tracks. They ended up costing me about a buck a piece as I remember and the "disco bass lure" effect is very visible to marshals when you end up on your lid.

In the UK we have lots of carpet tracks and don't have to run a chassis skin but they do check for loose screws at times

But we have to run a front shock tower protector to cover the front shock screws/tower so it doesn't rip the carpet when the car goes on its roof, for my RC10 I made some bolt protectors out of some scrap lexan, I'll see if i can dig out a picture

Can you just put tape over the screw holes?
