Tamiya's rereleased their SRB diff with a new part number 54897. From the pictures it looks to be identical to the 84113 diff. At least the crazy prices these things fetch will stop....... for a while.

I think I will try to use one in MIP SP-1...

It's being positioned as an improved design on the original.

Knowing Tamiya, it ain't much.
Just a marketing ploy to sell more.

There's one on ebay of the last run with a bid of £125.99 on it right now I guess someone didn't get the memo !

I swear you can't gauge "worth" anymore from eBay auctions.
Sometimes they go super high - insanity!!!
Sometimes they go way too low - WTH?!?!
I am afraid of listing anything anymore on eBay for that reason - Forrest Gump was right!!! You never know what you're gonna git.

I have one on its way , its been in the country since the 26th so I guess I'm gonna get hit with import tax I don't mind the tax but the post office always stick an extra £10 handling fee on top I'll let you know how I get on with it when it arrives .

My diff arrived today and I had the chance to assemble and fit it , reading old threads the problems people had with the older version was it coming loose after short periods of use and then you needed to remove the diff to readjust it .
The new one has dry locktight on the adjuster screw thread and can be adjusted with the removal of just one UJ , you use an Allen key to lock together two keyways , one in the axle and the other in the adjuster nut and you adjust by rotating the other side wheel .
I've yet to drive my SRB so I can't comment on how well it works .

I got mine as well and checked if it could be used with MIP SP-1. The diff gear is a tiny tiny bit bigger. When assembled the full gear box spins pretty freely, but you can feel/hear it slightly scratches somewhere. Probably it would be fine with sanding the gear box... Anyway, since I've still some original MIP spare parts left this is not a top priority for me, so I'm putting this diff aside for a while. However it would be interesting to hear other comments regarding using this diff on MIP SP-1.

After 7 or 8 runs mine just came loose when running , I guess the little but of dry threadlock is not enough but its quick and easy to re tighten so I guess I can deal with it , I'm not going to loose a race or anything ,so long as it does not happen every run its OK

Thanks for letting us know. Sounds like nothing was changed. When I saw the new part number I hoped that it was going to be a new design. A diff with a bent through bolt like MIP or Thorp would have been great.

I have one of the older #84113 diffs that kept unwinding itself every run. The fix was to remove Tamiya's red threadlock and replace with it with some Loctite. Then the bolt was tightened more than Tamiya recommends. It still has differential action albeit a bit stiffer than standard and most importantly, it hasn't unwound, .....yet.
