Front caster blocks

Post by graemevw »

Just going through the bits for my car and noticed these are different.

Is this the difference between 15 and 30 degree? They look the same angle, but different heights.
If so, which is which?

Put a pin through them, they definitely go through at the same angle.

They had castor blocks from 5* to 30* in 5* increments for the rc10. Hard to say exactly what you have there.

it’s easier to tell with two pins.
30 deg have the pins at right angles.

Most kits came with 15 deg. The late Team car kits came with 30deg.
The most desirable are the 25deg as they are what most racers used before 30deg block came out. :D

Ok, and the more obtuse the angle the less caster, so if 30 degree blocks are at 90, 0 degree blocks would be 120?
These really do seem to have the same angle, just different heights.
Ill see if i can find a protractor.

The one with the hole high up has broken through and looks a little weak.

This one is tight to, grips the pin, would need easing off to run unless the pin is loose in the arm.

Yeah the different height thing is odd, never noticed that before. don't mix them up because the axle height will be different.
I'm going to inspect some cars to find and explanation.

Currently they are the only two blocks i have. The car has had very little use and doesnt seem to have ever been apart. Cant say for certain obviously, but if i was a betting man id say it came like this from new.

but it's an injection molded part. :?:
Perhaps they come out of the mold as blanks, then the pin hole is added to establish the different caster angles?
Anyway, I've not seen this before.
