Bottom load - top load shock cap compatibility

Post by Bakauata »

How compatible are the parts from the original bottom load shocks with the black cap top loading shocks?

Can I use the earlier gold caps from the bottom loaders on the top loaders?

Will they work work with the black o'rings from the black caps? Or could I use the gold caps with the nylon gasket?

I'd like to build a set of top loaders with gold caps if possible.

Or should I just build the bottom loaders and use those? Are they that much worse than the top loaders?

Thanks in advance

Chris

All associated small bore caps are interchangeable, nylon cap gaskets are not that good, generally o rings are better. Bottom load shocks are no better or worse than the later top loaders, just harder to work on unless you have the proper circlip pliers. :D

Great. Thanks for the super quick response. I'm working on this now and was holding off form committing to one or the other.

I am surprised though that the caps are considered completely interchangeable, since the black o'ring is not captured by the gold cap, and therefore works more like a gasket than with the nylon cap which envelops the o'ring.
