My A Stamp RC10 resto-mod runner build.

Post by SOS »

Starting my new-to-me early RC10 build. This car needs a lot more work than I anticipated, but then again maybe I should have expected this since I normally do this with full scale old cars and it's always the same story. I'm going to do this the old school way. Not because I'm trying to be cool or retro, but because I'm lazy and don't want to bother re-learning RC all over again. Thanks for looking!

First time bringing her home.

A leftover from the old days. I'll see if it's any good. Not sure why this image got all messed.

The last remaining esc I own. Taking it from my old touring car.

Old plastic fail :(

After splitting my battery tray, I decided I should soak all my bits in hot water.

This is where I'm at now. More to follow. Thanks again for looking =)

Really? It looks pretty good to me -- especially for a car you plan to run.
It's good that you're re-hydrating the nylon parts, this will give those old parts a fighting chance.
Have you downloaded a copy of the manual?

It is clean and straight, but there are a bunch of little things that need to be addressed. I'll probably make a separate post with all the issues I'm dealing with! I did dl the manual and it's been a great help.

Electronics in. She's almost ready to fly! I love how short the antenna is on this modern receiver. No more ugly giant antenna sticking out of the body!

Yeah, I don't even bother to run an antenna tube; I just leave the wire loose inside the chassis.
The car came together great. That body looks awesome - nice work!! 8)

Nice gold tub!

I would still make sure the antenna doesn't whip itself all over the place on the chassis. One way to do this is to still use an antenna mount and tube, heat it up gently while the antenna is IN the tube, then bend it - this way it stays under the body and it's better for the electronics ;)

Like this, for instance:

Regarding cracked plastic - looks like there was too much stress... Someone put 1:1 scale torque on these screws at some point ;) The rim cracking is something else, though

It's been a while. My rc10 has been running along and bashing well. A lipo upgrade has made the car really fly. Love the new technology!
