RC10DS - Mustang to ... PORSCHE?

Back in June 2013 i purchased an Electric DS to run on the street. i dropped in a sidewinder 3 and topped it off with a freshly painted red and black HPI Mustang body. I didn't do much to the car when i got it but i did add the body and electrics.
Image

Had some fun running it but decided to break it down and redo the car. This is the chassis, not crazy about the purple RPM turnbuckle ends or the black coated chassis.
Image

I want to redo this car the same way i did my buddy's DS Camaro...but with a few differences. This is the Camaro i restored for my buddy...
Image

Ive been polishing a "C" stamped chassis and noseplate.

Associated CVD's for the rear end and wide 12mm hex drives

Battery holder, rear bulkhead and a Factory Works battery brace mounted

Shock Tower, rear suspension arms, rear stabilizer mounted. Stainless steel hardware replaces stock steel.

Front end mounted. Arms, Shock tower and front stabilizer. Stainless steel hardware used upfront as well.

Front bumper..

MIP Ball bearing steering assembly keeps things simple and tidy.

HPI Vintage chrome wheels and tires used.

This DS is slowly becoming cooler than stock....

When working on this i had thoughts of a new body. Initially i was going to paint and mount a 69 Camaro body like my buddy's DS.
Then i thought of making things easier and using a body that was gifted to me by a buddy. A Vaterra 67 Mustang Fastback body.
Its a really cool body and Ive setup the DS to accommodate the Mustang's wheelbase. Unfortunately it will need new mounting holes.
I dont like extra mounting holes on a body so im still on the fence on using this body.

Here is a quick mock up...

I may or may not go with this body...but at least i got the wheelbase to match.
Let me know what you think.

Great looking DS. I'd stick with the fastback mustang and probably make my own body mounts. Also, I'm digging your European Carry All in the background.

That is a sweet build!
Hard to tell, but looks like the front bumper mounts alighn with the holes in the body. If not maybe you can fabricate a mount using RC10L body mounts and a strip of fiberglass half way up to align with a second set of posts.
Same for the rear. Manufacture/use sort of a Andy's rear dirt oval body mount.

If i can use the same mounting holes then i will use this body....

If i cant, then i have a 66 mustang coupe, 70 boss mustang, javelin, and a 70 challenger to choose from.

hey even got a PT cruiser body,

Thanks...The next DS build will be electric and will start with a pink chassis. i love the MIP steering setups. Granted they dont have an adjustable servo saver feature like the stock DS but i prefer a servo saver on the servo itself.

Seems like the Mustangs car bodies are a favorite

Im still trying to figure out the body mount situation. Sandkil has some great suggestions which i will be looking into because i really like this body.

 HAHAHA, Love seinfeld....im proud to say that its my wife's P U R S E  I should have cleared the background a little

Make the mounts.

That Mustang looks FANTASTIC on a DS! I've thought about doing that with mine for a long time...you just made the decision for me. I've had a Bolink 65' Fastback on mine since it was new, but never dug the semi-realistic lines.

The HPI scale Torque-Thrust's push it over the top.

Besides, Camaros are (yawn) a dime a dozen. 8)

Update: I toyed around with the idea of using the Vaterra mustang body but had a change of heart a while ago. I decided to mount these cool aluminum porsche wheels on my shiny DS instead. They were pricey but looked awesome so i had to mount them on this DS. They use the Tamiya tires. I got a set of wide Tamiya slicks but im still looking for the fronts( not in a hurry though) i used a set of prolines in the meantime. After i mounted the wheels i put this project away because i moved and recently found this in one of my boxes. I have an HPI body for it....in storage though, so this will be a project to finish soon once i get more organized. Here are some pics to show off the wheels.

True.... I don’t know why I didn’t think about the chassis...
