I picked up this boat/trailer yesterday at a swap meet. The seller made the trailer years ago from extruded aluminum, toy grade wheels and tires and Tamiya shocks. Looking at the inside, I saw the speed gems motor and radio gear and dated all of it around the early 90's. Not sure about the switch instead of an esc. I guess this was full throttle or nothing. We settled on $35 and returned to my own table. A little while later a guy came by who asked to see the boat. He seemed quite sure he knew exactly what it was. He said it was an "SK" boat, but was illegal for racing because of the ribs along the outer edges of the bottom of the hull. He stated that the boat was from the 60's and had the electrics upgraded later. I took what info I had and searched for hours last night looking for something that looked similar and have come up dry. Anyone out there into old boats or have any info on what it is that I have here?

You are an rc encyclopedia! Any idea how old it is? I was hoping it would look good behind a scaler truck, but the more I look at it, the dimensions might be closer to 1/8 scale.

I dont see it in the couple of catalogs I found, but I would have to say its towards the end of MRP before selling out- id say early to mid 90's.

My first impression was that it looks like an MRP boat. Then I scrolled down to see GoMachV nailed it. I still need to get the boat I bought late last summer going.

I need to get off my butt too and finish my boat too.

Was using a switch instead of an esc common back then? Maybe because of a lack of waterproof esc's?

I remember drag R/Cs always using microswitches in place of an esc as well.

The Zeta line of escs were a game changer as they were the only thing that could handle big power requirements and load. They were used extensively in boats, drag, Clods, and pullers.
