I spotted this sponge at the local discount store, dense but still soft enough to not leave a mark on your chassis or table. Cheap man, got to love that!

Nice. I'll tell the wife to pick me up one. She loves an excuse to go to the dollar store.

I'm too cheap to buy a race bag, so I'm using an old duffel.

It's getting to the point where I'm out of room to pack anything more. It will work perfect for me.

they would work really nicely as cheap 'stands' to keep your cars off the tires on the shelf. Hmm. Nice.

I used to show up to the track with a brown paper bag from the supermarket

I have to admit I get a good measure of satisfaction going to the track with my out of date truck with it's $19 motor strapped across the top of an old leather duffel bag and then beating the guy next to me with all the latest equipment bolted in the latest hopped up buggy that was carried in a $150 race bag.

It makes the first place win even sweeter.

I agree! when I got back into racing in 2011, I had a tekin G10 and a Peak Performance Raven from about 10 years prior that I figured I would put in the used B4 I got, until I picked (and could afford) a brushless setup. I can drive pretty decent, and I remember being 3rd after qualifying, with what I later found out were the 2 local fast guys ahead of me. I wasn't too far off of their pace, and I remember overhearing one saying to the other "did you see the motor that guy is running?!"... Man, that was a great feeling. Now if I only had a sponge car stand, I could have really made a point!

Very cool. For me it wasn't even a financial thing. My new b6 is getting all the goodies including a Reedy Mach3. But with with my truck, I wanted it to be my driving and my tuning skills winning, not just having the latest gear. That being said, stock buggy is the most competitive class, so I want to make sure the new buggy has the ability to keep up------even if I do bring it to the track strapped to an old duffel with a sponge as a stand.

My dollar stands. $0.99 shipped off of ebay. Yoga blocks. I also picked up a "pit mat" from the yoga shelves in Walmart for $8.

The yoga mat! I can't believe I didn't think of that! I just asked the wife for hers when I read that and promptly got yelled at to, "leave her s#!t alone".

Seeing that I am still in the recovery stage of whats left of my r/c collection I was in need of many car stands that my cars could it on the shelf with. While a $20 car stand is really not that bad of a price when looking at 1, it was a bit different when needing 25 or so. Yoga blocks are solid blocks of closed cell foam. You can trim them to fit the shape of a chassis with a simple bread knife. The also make cheap closed cell foam bumpers if you want to carve them out. They are also very light weight if you want to take them to the track.
I was at my local hobby shop and saw a proline and a jconcepts pit mats on the shelf for sale. I cringed at the price but noticed they are nothing more than yoga mats with branding printed on them. I swung by Walmart on my way home and bought my mat.
Special note who try anything for an advantage at the track. (pink blocks and mats are also good to get into other drivers heads. wink and blow em a kiss for added effect. lol)

I'm completely sold on the idea! Yoga blocks and mat just went on this weeks shopping list. Thanks for the tip! I got the idea of using old wheels/tires for display stands on another thread around here. I found that old stadium truck wheels/tires work great. Non scratching surface and big enough to be stable while still being somewhat hidden beneath the car.
