What are the correct tires for the original kit?

hello All,

I'm currently building my gold tub and I had a question regarding the tires that came with the original gold kit.

I have seen the following tires either in person or in pictures:

Goodyear tires
Front - tires have goodyear on the sidewall
Rear - tires have goodyear on the sidewall

No name tires
Front
1. does not reflect a name
2. has very fine ribs
3. compound looks shiney
Rear
1. tires do not reflect a name
2. has larger spikes in rows of 3 & 4

Team Associated tires
Front
1. tires have team associated on the sidewall
2. has 4 ribs
Rear
1. tires have team associated on the sidewall
2. has larger spikes in rows of 3 & 4

So, which tires are correct...or were all of the tires ofered on the kit at one time or another?

Regards,
highwayracer

i believe the original kit offered the goodyears, which were AYK tires?

then later on the no name tires, with the fine rib fronts and 4/3 pattern rears.

and finally the AE branded tires were the ones that were finally used.

could be wrong but from what i remember it sounds right

From what I can gather, the tyres varied during production runs, but as long as you have a pair (goodyears with goodyears, Associated with associated and narrow front with blank rear) then your tyres are likely to be correct.

I think what no one has done is try to narrow down what tyres came with which version of the RC10.

Open to disproving, from my observations I believe the narrow rib front and blank sided rear tyres only came with the bushing kits. I presume as a cost saving measure. If you have a bushing kit with other tyres, please comment. I know I have never seen a NIB or new built bushing kit with goodyears or associateds on it. (I wish mine did come with them, I think they look cool). I have also not seen a NIB/NB bearing kit with the narrow fronts or blank rears.

It has been suggested these narrow front/blank sided rear equipped cars were the early versions, but it is hard to tell. My A stamped bushing cars both came with narrow/blanks, and I'm sure the stock motor that came with them is an Edinger addressed one i.e. my cars are early. Guy I bought them off said 1985.

Therefore I assume Goodyears came with early versions of the bearing kits, and I presume Associated tyres came with later versions of the same kit when the goodyears ran out or associated made their own.

Maybe all you NIB/New built owners could add your buggy order number and the tyres that came with it?

Another thing to add to the 'definitive RC10 collectors guidebook" as being compiled by the mods??

they also made 4 rib fronts without the team associated on the sidewall. so ya know.

EDIT: pic added. this car had plain sidewalls front and rear, and had bushings.

Hey scr8p,
Yep, those are the narrow ones that I am talking about (in my avatar also).

Interesting, never knew there were blank 4 ribs.

I realised yesterday that I sold two sets of Goodyear rears before I got into RC10's bummer

Proline Champion rear tires are very similar to the blank 4 3 tire, maybe just a touch narrower. Associated never moved a lot of tires off the wall, so finding the Prolines may be a bit easier. A pair of Proline 4 rib fronts might complement them well (See Mike's E-Bay links while you can...).

Thanks everyone for the information. I guess the determining when a specific tire was included in a kit is almost as difficult as determining when the associated change in the tub color (different anodizer).

I just have to now figure out which tires to put on my car.

What, a different anodizer?
Sheesh, which gold is early and which gold is late lol..

Seriously, how do they differ?
