I was out of the hobby in the mid 2000's so I missed the whole transition. From what I can gather, brushed was still being used when the B3 was out but was it still being used when the B4 was introduced?

Starting just after you left the hobby, 2005-2010-ish. As for the B3/B4 question, no idea.
