Speed Passion Motor Wires

Just picked up a Speed Passion Reventon S, but the motor wires are too short. Does anyone know if I can remove the old ones at the ESC? This model has the wires pre-soldered from the factory on the board, unlike the Pro which has terminals. I really do not want to splice the wires. I tried to remove the old wire, but it would not come off.

You can but you need a hot iron and to be quick about how you do it,just like any other board really... Try adding a little solder to the iron before you try an remove the factory stuff...

Kind of figured I need more heat. How hot are we talking? I have an older 40w iron, but with a pencil tip (tried fresh solder on the tip but got scared holding it on for so long). I am looking at an 80w with chisel tip.

I use an 80w iorn almost exclusively. I even solder small wire with it by regulating temp by turning it on and off. Use a chisel tip as it transfers heat better. If you can't undo the solder joint in 4 -5 seconds stop and try again in a minute.

I find a solder wick is the easiest and cleanest way to clean up holes in preparation for soldering new wires to circuit boards.

I don't use anything less than 60w. It's a good compromise, and hot enough to do all your RC stuff. A 40W iron likely wouldn't cut it.
