Small transmitter for child hands

Hi,
my kids, 3 1/2 and 5 are starting to like my RCs. I cannot find any child specific radios though. Years a go I fried the MOS FETs of a Tamiya QD mig´dnight pumpkin, and during my tinkering found out that those radios were actually compatible with my othe 27MHz receivers, with swapped channels. That transmitter is either ditched or in my parents attic in Germany.
Now does anyone have such a transmitter for sale, or any recommendation for hobby compatible child size radios?
Thanks, Tony

I just did some reading, it seems toy grade transmitters USUALLY use crystals, just soldered.
That would be no problem for me to change the crystal. Are these transmitters RC receiver compatible if on the right frequency?
Thanks, Tony

You might want to take a look at the Quanum radio on hobbyking, I heard they are somewhat small in hand and I plan to get one for my nephew in a year or so.

Thanks clm,
I also found a bunch of these:

in the bay, they look VERY similar to the old Tamiya QDs, and perhaps even smaller than the ones you suggested. I have to ask the guy what he knows, and what his restocking fee is.

What about the small XMod controllers? Those use crystals don't they? I don't know what frequency they are though...or the range.
Plus they fold up nicely.

The tower hobbies 2.4g radios have a smaller fit, my boy used it when he was 4. Takes 4 AA batteries so it's pretty light. Very inexpensive as well as the recievers.

I just pulled out a box of old x mods stuff and looked at the radios. They are definitely smaller and do use swappable crystals.
