Question about small Lipo powered car.
I'm getting ready to build a rail dragster from brass tubing and sheet. It will have an old school 16t brushed motor with a resistor set up. I could go modern but, I like the old resistors and this is more of an art project type car. While it will be an artsy car I do want it to be reasonably functional. Do you think a 1000mah lipo would be a reasonable power supply to make a pass or two? I'm trying to find the smallest battery possible as this will dictate the width of the frame rails. I'm not sure of the amp draw on the old brushed motor and resistor setup. Opinions on a battery would be appreciated. I have nearly all supplies for the build in route except for the battery. I've got a few sketches of the car drawn up but, will mostly wing it as the build goes on. I feel good about this one.

Re: Question about small Lipo powered car.
Ended up going with a TURNIGY NANO-TECH 1500mAh 2S LIPO BATTERY 7.4V 35C 70C.
I think this should cover it.
Capacity: 1500mAh
Voltage: 2S1P / 2 Cell / 7.4V
Discharge: 35C Constant / 70C Burst
Weight: 91g (including wire, plug & case)
Dimensions: 85x35x14mm
Balance Plug: JST-XH
Discharge Plug: XT60

Re: Question about small Lipo powered car.
yeah, that should work out fine. As long as you can sustain a burst amps of around 100 I don't think you will be losing any performance.

Yeah, I don't plan on any serious racing with this project. Just want to make a couple of passes every so often without the thing melting down. Wanted to make sure the battery could handle the load and be small enough to hide. This is a project I've wanted to do for quite some time, hopefully it turns out well.

Re: Question about small Lipo powered car.
Wow this type of thing has been randomly popping in and out of my head lately. Nowhere near ready to start anything, but little tubes and brass shim stock.........bending it up, cutting, snipping, and soldering.....just sounds like a blast. Maybe someday.
I look foward to seeing this one take shape.
Lazy question: anybody have any "links" to similar projects?

Thanks, I'll be starting a thread in the other makes section this weekend. I'll show you everything I used and what tools you need. Hopefully you guys will see how easy it is and start on your own creation. It really is fun!

I plan on building a sort of faux engine for it. It will be partly working for the resistor wiper. I've got some 1/8 big block Chevy valve covers being printed up by Shape Ways. It's going to be wild looking.

Re: Question about small Lipo powered car.
you could just put a second of those wiper speed controls on and with the fins at the end it would almost look like a flat 4 engine

I could have done a straight six too. Notice the steering arrangement with the bell crank, that's what I'll be using.

Re: Question about small Lipo powered car.
I'll probably wait until Monday to start my build thread so here's a few teasers.
He's safe now (he'll need to be with me driving). O-ring tires for the front proved to be too large, second set is incoming.
I'm currently in the process of milling off the excess brass from the tail. I should also have the rails and firewall done soon.
