As most of you know, Rod had a house fire that destroyed a lot of his stuff a while back. Moving forward, his basement is looking better than ever, but still a lot to be done RC wise. One thing on his to do list is to restore his Edinger RC10, so we work out an agreement that works for the both of us. I think he's getting the better end of the deal...maybe... if it turns out they way he wants lol.

I've gotten a little bit done, but have mountains of obstacles to overcome yet.
I've gotten the chassis as clean as it's going to get. Bottom pics and much more later.

Cleaning stuff from a fire is a MESSY and NASTY job, I commend you on your work!

...Although I came into this thread thinking I was going to see an rc10 done up as a Fire Rescue paint scheme

You can still make out that there was a signature there. Actually, there are 2 signatures there, maybe Rod will chime in with who the second one is. The ink is really faded after cleaning the chassis, but still there.

Going to have to send it to Jammin Jay once it is re-restored for another signature

These pictures are so sad I hope most of it can be recovered? Tires and gear cover will be challenging. I'm sure it can be resurrected like a Phoenix though. Good luck with DA mission Anthony!

My baby is in good loving hands, thank you Anthony for doing this as it just pained me every time I touched it to start a resto! Sadly the second signature was Gene Husting that can never be redone. But... on a positive note, the original blue and white Curtis Husting body that came with this car survived the fire, is in perfect condition and has both Jay and Gene signatures.

If it were my car, and I had other RC10's, I'd leave this one in as-is condition and shelf it.

I've started working away on the front end. The majority of the parts have heat damage and are permanently discoloured. I used simple green and Tamiya lacquer thinner on the parts and still the colouring remains. For the steel parts, a wire brush dremel attachment and 800 grit sandpaper goes a long way. Rod, a wiped down the chassis like you showed me and yet there still remains some discolouration. This restoration might turn out to be more a heavy cleaning and rebuild.

I think it'd would be a good idea to get Jay involved and show him the thread and more so your thread on your fire. I would love to send him the chassis, at my cost, and get him to resign it. The signature over the discolouration would be cool as hell.

Really cool what you are doing for Rod, the restore is coming along great!

Reading through his fire thread that is such a shame what happened, and from what I understand an all too common occurrence with early LiPos and chargers. Heck, not even RC related fires, I recall laptops and other early adopters if LiPo technology having similar issues...

It would be awesome to reach out to Jay, I am sure he would re-sign Rod's car in a heartbeat.

Thanks first of all for all of your support! It gives me that much more motivation to do the right things and not take any shortcuts.

I've got the front end back together. I'm saving the shocks to do all together so it will save me some time.

As you can see, especially on the ballcups, there is a bit of staining. I'll wait to consult with Rod, but I'm not sure if he would want me to take further steps and try to remove the staining or not. There would be sanding of the fiberglass and possibly whitening of the nylon parts and the ballcups would have to be replaced.

I have to go into the shop to get a B4 Intruder body for a box art B4 project I'm doing, so I will take this into him and see what he wants to do.
