First "real" build... Let's make it a Quadra!

Post by bjammin90 »

~8 months ago I picked up a World ReRe and had a ton of fun racing it in 17.5 and 13.5 classes but wanted something that could hang with all the built 17.5 new school cars.
I have a full tilt B5ML with all the lightweight sexy go fast parts but that's such a "Me too" car I wanted something different, yet competitive.
Whenever I would run the RC10 I would get lot's of fun interaction no matter how off the pace I was. Basically I wanted something that could hang with my new school car but have the character of an old school car.
Enter the Quadra.
After reading Niki's write up I decided building a Quadra conversion was for me. If all went well it would be a stepping stone to my ultimate RC10, the NIX10M.
Build plans were laid out, parts were ordered, bourbons were imbibed....

Goals for this build:
- Get 10-15g under the 1499g weight limit of the 17.5 class. This would allow me to add weight where needed for final corner balancing and handling. This will be done with full ti hardware, B5 ti ballstuds, ballcups, and turnbuckles.
- Electronics will consist of Reedy servo, esc, and Schuur Speed 17.5 with a Trinity D4 1S Certified as backup. (it's ~ 20g lighter but revs like a madman. Perfect for open layouts)
- Run full Big Bore shocks from a B5MCE (Kashima)
- Increase the tunability for my local med/high bite indoor clay tracks.

Below are pics of the parts layout on my work station and my first step... trimming the chassis.

Looks like a great start, I'll be following this one.

NIX10M Quadra in theory should be the ultimate RC10.
I was old school - when old school wasn't cool !

The reason for the delay?
I was too busy playing around with this:
