Hi Guys,

So it seems most of you/us have more than one car. I have been out of the RC world for a while, at the moment I have, say three running cars. Thing is I only have one set of electrics and they are pretty old and beat up. So how do you run all your cars. Do you have once set of running electrics you swap from car to car? Do you have steering servos permamantly in all the cars or just swap one about as required?

Interested in how you manage your fun at a reasonable cost. Any suggestions on electrics welcomed as long as parts are avaibale in the UK.

With modern 2.4 GHz radio systems (theoretically; issues sometimes occur), most of them have a 10-car model memory...so as long as you buy as many receivers (matched to the transmitter) for as many cars as you have, you just need to bind the transmitter to each car in model memory and you can run any of those cars at one time. This assumes each car already is setup with ESC's and servos.

I have been trying to get reasonable price servos for the one's I think I'll use and have a few esc an motor combos and a few rx.. I just use velcro for rx an transponder. I tend to run a few buggies per year an then move onto others. I only club race an don't get involved in the bigger meetings so around $35 for a servo and I use the futaba fhss so rx are around the same.. Been three vintage an one newer lately

OK so in an ideal world then you guys set your cars up with a full time receiver and steering servo then just swap motors and cells around as required with the ESC?

I have a few rx that I use in all my runners an I velcro those in an out of chassis... All depends how serious you want to run them an how much coin you want to drop on them..

I did that in general, and still do it, but with not as many models as long ago.

Servo and ESC for each unit, generally swap out receiver, although at the time, I was using am systems, so I could use a bunch of futaba compatible ones I collected over the years(hitec, mrc,futaba) so it was a matter of swapping xtals usually, but worst case, I swapped receiver/antenna mast from model to model.

now for the couple models I am currently running, I have a tower 2.4Ghz radio (good for smalls hands, for my boys) and the receivers are cheap, so I have three, that have internal antennas.

Used the Tower 2.4Ghz radio for about 5 years without any issues. Nice radio for the money.

With each car I buy all the electronics needed to run them.

If that is not for you I would recommend buying a steering servo and receiver for each buggy and swap out the ESC/Motor(usually the most expensive component).

I install a motor and ESC combo and a servo in each of my cars. Then, just one transmitter and enough matching receivers for all the cars. I'd much rather not R & R a motor/ESC from my cars whenever I wanted to switch. Plus, the motors & ESCs I selected for each car is specific to that car, so running a single motor/ESC combo for all the cars just wouldn't make sense.

For personal use, one Transmitter and multiple receivers. Swapping electronics is a hassle especially since I don't use the same setups in every vehicle.

For stuff that other people may drive, I have piles of Traxxas TQ radios. Most are older FM that tend to come in parts lots, although now the trend is shifting to the 2.4Ghz TQi's showing up in random boxes of parts.

If I am feeling especially goofy, I'll give some on an old Futaba Magnum or a KO Propo with no reverse.
