Carbon B3 - nix9200

Hi all,
welcome to my B3 carbon project / revival.

I originally raced this Team B3 back in 1997,
and while I was super interested and loved to practise alot, I broke some things.
At the same time thanks to the car being so new, much trouble was had ordering in replacement parts and i slowly lost interest.

Over the years on and off, it was revived with whatever new parts it needed and used as a r/c AND bmx track basher.

Back at it again,
Have a B5M ( damn what a car! ) and a few other old cars which i'll make runners eventually.

So far I have ordered the following parts:

Fibre-lyte nix9200 chassis (standard length)
New bearing kit
Compisite top plate
B44.2 saddlepack battery trays + exotek carbon battery straps
Front bulkhead.
shapeways parts. nix92002
nix92401
nix92004

What it needs without looking too hard into it:
Body
spur gear cover
front hinge pins
rpm bumper
HEAPS of hardware
Maybe a nose plate
Diff outdrives + cvd hardware (the small pin)
Front shock rebuild.

Basically, its fairly beat up and its almost easier to wait for a nice factory team doner B3,
but wheres the fun in that.

Some pic's show many gears of dust, grime and use.
Just realised my camera sucks, so i'll have to rectify that...

More updates as I receive more parts in the mail.

Nice that you found my old B2/B3/T3 Graphite topic.
In fact I'm going to work with my project car in near future also. B2 will get it's old race appearance back and new build will be B3 Worlds Graphite.

I love a good B3 project.... I have a handful of used and new parts if you are looking for something specific... I may have it laying around.

I believe these to be proline "Blade" tires. I used them all the time locally in the truck version. They worked great and always loved the looks the guys had when they seen how well they handled. Never had the buggy version but trucks were my thing at that time. They are different looking for sure 8)

No idea how I found it to be honest, I think I was looking deep into the archives for B3 builds.
Cool as that you design and build custom r/c stuff for everyone to enjoy.

Thanks mate, may have to hit you up for some parts!
aslong as you dont mind international shipping... haha

Klavy69 and Mr.ED,
yep tyres are different,
I actually dont remember buying them.
Onthe side walls it says "proline wide "

About the only things going for the poor ol' B3 is the worlds wide body wheels, lunsford Ti turn buckles and the few sets of spare rear wheels I have.
The rest is well used :(

Sorry guys but I just cant get my phone cam to play ball,
it looks good on the phone but once I get it to photo bucket, its goes a tad blurry.

Way back then, when I couldnt get parts, I made them
(Not very well)
Heres a alloy front tower.
Image

After loosing a million E-clips which ment the front arms would eventually fall off,
I replaced the hinge pins with nuts and bolts.
Did more harm than good in the end, flogging out the bulkhead holes, sometimes breaking the bulkhead.

Also note in the first pic, theres a shock O ring being used as a spacer.

Glad im not as dodgey these days

Nothing really major to report,
main hold back is finding a screw kit or putting up with the local bolt bloke.
He hates small imperial stuff.

alloy screw kits can be found on ebay quite regularly. Even seen a few stainless kits hidden here and there but mostly finding the aluminum team screw kits.

Thanx for verifying proline on the tires. Like with the truck fronts they had a section with ribs on half the tire and a section of knobbies on the other half. With the buggy version it looks like it only had one extra rib on that 'half' of it. I remember seeing these in the LHS many years back and thinkin someday I'll have a buggy to work with and these will be around to put on it... . Another one of those times when I should've hoarded them back into the stash

I seen it awhile back on CR racing's board...might've even been ANTR board before that some guys were running used shock shafts on hinge pins because of the same situation as you were becoming frustrated with...losing clips. They would use rpm nylon nuts on one end and clips on the trailing side for easier maintenance and not losing a hinge pin during a race. Reported some of the same issues with bulkhead breaking though.

That front shock tower doesn't look that bad for what you probably had to work with material and toolwise at the time, I've seen worse

Todd,
Yep im hanging out for a stainless screw kit.

The blue team bolt packs dont have the ones im after.
(Basically all the ones that go through the bottom of the chassis, all are damaged)

Great idea on the shock shafts though!

Shapeways parts arrived today,
as well as a bearing kit, bulkhead and a RTR 6 gear gold pan buggy.

The buggy was purchased recently off feeBay to be a runner while I get the B3 to a rolling chassis.
My plan is to get 3 good cars running for some family track time, more on this in a new thread next week.

Parts eventually donated to the B3 are:
basic AE transmitter/ receiver combo
Castle 6900kv motor / esc combo.

i'll only get one picture up, promise guys i'll sort out the crappy image issue sooooooon.

Got some parts!
All the bolts I need
a few thunder tiger parts.
Also ordered a few more parts and purchased some others.
The leg in the pic ive had awhile now..

Hot tip:
Most of the thunder tiger bx2 / xb is metric, hardware wise.
I was hoping the nose plate was imperial, Nope metric threaded :(

Luckily member erichevy is coming to the rescue on the nose plate!

Ive run a 3/32 (2.38mm) drive bit through the nix shapeways bits, havent not tried to run a 4-40 bolt into them yet,
but should be a great fit.

No build pics yet, been super busy.
Anyway, he's some purchases.

Righto blokes,

Lent my brother the castle 6900 as his buggy was "too slow" compared to the hobbywing 9t in my b5m...

Im thinking the 6900 is alittle extreme for the rear motored B3.
Power wheelies!
So back to the drawing board on the esc and motor combo.

Some pics,
Battery straps are exotek, I think they look good.
Plus they were on sale!
Unfortunately I didnt order enough of the black thumb screws, so will have to order another pair.
I do have a pair of AE ones in blue, but all black is better.

I actually ordered what I thought was a NIP carbon compisite top plate, but when it arrived it was plastic, ohhhh well.
Then this morning while digging through old parts trays for hardware, I found another used top plate.
After washing the very dirty one that was currently on it, turned out that was a carbon one I had forgotten got fitted awhile back,
DOH.
Image

Oh the joys!
Image

While I was playing battery cradles, drilled this goldie to suit my saddlepacks.
I figure underneith was fairly beat with a few previous owner drill holes anyway.

The thunder tiger bx2 and xb were copies of the b3,
From what i can tell they were at least 90% the same.

I brought some front hinge pins and diff outdrives :)
