Crescenzi Drum Brake on the GT

My son decided he wanted to buy a nitro truck of his own, so we spent some time on ebay looking for parts and deals on RC10GTs,
He came across this lot.
I spied a few nice parts, including what looked like a Crescenzi drum brake kit and a blue anodized robinson lightened slipper clutch setup.

pic is small as the original auction is a few months old and this is all that shows up.
I finally got around to installing the brake. Had to do some searching with the wayback machine to find some pictures and info on the setup.
The brake mount bracket gets flipped around to the wrong side of the trans case as it is easier to do this than to try to get washers lined up between the trans case and chassis mount points to take up the space.
I Haven't gotten it back together completely yet to test out how it works compared to the stock caliper and disc setup.
Need to get a proper thrust bushing. I was running a dirt oval slipper eliminator prior to adding this brake setup.
Has anyone used one of these?

Yes. justinspeed79 was a mod over at Dave's board so he'll pry be back to chime in but they were AWESOME! vs. the original set ups. I wanna say you had to use the RTR tranny mount with the brake though but if yours was a rtr you should be set. I wanna say that I might've seen that lot but passed on it...picture looks very familiar. Might not have been the one but wished I would've seen the CR brake setup

. You'll be very happy with it.

One of the best mods ever for the gt. I still use one on my main runner. The only thing you need to look out for is the leather pad coming unglued from the brass strap, but a little ca will take care of it. I put so many miles on the first one I had I wore clean through the aluminum drum.

Close, but it's the other way around, you have to use the factory team trans mount/chassis brace. The strap mounts to the "brace" side.

That RRP slipper is a rare piece too.
What ever happened to Crescenzi? Here's an archive of his old banner link from my old website.

Crescenzi Racing pretty much died with gas truck racing. Once gas truck fell off so did most of his business. He finally shut it down around '10, or so, don't remember the exact time. He kept the forum going for a while after that, but after a year or two there wasn't much going on on the forum anymore, so he shut that down too. Dave is alive and well, and still into rc's, but only as a hobby now.

Yep. Thanx for clarifying what I meant to type

.
It said it right in my head but then it typed it out wrong...dang keyboard
Dave was working on producing a conversion kit for going electric with the blue pan. Another nice part I liked of his was the steering assy. for the gt. I ended up with his gt2 he never finished putting together which in turn I never finished putting together

Figured that was a typo.
The electric conversion was his last gt project, iirc, but it never made it to production. The steering kit is also on my list of "best gt parts ever". Pretty much everything Dave made is.

What was the steering kit? I can't find any info on it. the internet archive doesn't have the page saved and google only turns up a couple mentions in forums with no real info.

There weren't too many made, they were done on a made to order basis, and they weren't exactly cheap at 50-60 each. It was an A&L style rack made from blue carbon and stock gt bellcranks that were machined to except bearings. I'll post a pic asap.
