On my Castle Sidewinder SCT and 3800kv motor sensorless setup, I had shortened the wires for a cleaner install.

It wasn't until *after* (of course) that I learned Castle tells you NOT to shorten the wires.

So my problem is this: I have a Castle Mamba Max Pro esc and 2400kv sensorless 550 motor. The wires are ungainly, and I'd really like to shorten them. Is there really any reason I shouldn't? Does it mess up the signals with a sensorless setup? My SCT setup seemed to be just fine after I cut them down, but now I'm hesitant. Has anyone had an unsatisfactory experience after shortening the wires?

I recently called castle and asked the same question about my 2200 and 2650 motors and was told it's perfectly fine to cut non shielded wires. If it has silicone you can cut or extend them.

In my case I may need to extend the 6.5mm revo 2200 black motor with really short wires.

What would they be using shielded wires on anyways?

I think I can shed some light based on some of the motors I have seen. Some of the motors use the direct motor windings out of the end of the can, and so would be solid wire that is varnished. They often wind them together, heat up to burn off the varnish and tin together(solder), and then cover with a 'shield' of heat shrink or some other plastic. Those are hard to shorten because you need to be sure you solder all of the wires together again otherwise you run the risk of a dead winding.

for ones that have the tabs, female connectors, or circuit board pads, those are simply just wires and can be shortened or even removed.
