RC12LC Foam Tires

Post by rraeford »

When I ran 1/12 scale many years ago, our club would collect everyone's used up foam wheels/tires and send them off to TRC (or some such place). Each person had to strip off the old rubber and clean them. They would return ready to install and run. I doubt this service is available anymore but I have many old wheels (with the two pin holes) that I want to get reshoed. I can redo them myself but finding rubber is difficult. Maybe I'm not looking in the right place. Does anyone know where I can find a good source for foam donuts...other than ebay? Supplies are getting both thin and expensive. Thanks.

I like this thread. I am in a similar situation. I have a box of (literally) hundreds of vintage 1/12 and 1/10 pan car wheels from nearly every manufacturer back in the day. I would love to put some fresh foam on them and true them on my tire lathe, but I am not willing to pay eBay prices for donuts either.
Something clever goes here...

I just went through this with my RC12Lw and RC10 converted on road car (not RC10L)

I ended up making 3d printed hubs for both cars so I could run modern wheels and tires.

This place makes donuts to YOUR specs but I had them make me a set and I was very disappointed. I actually had them do 2 sets for me and they were basically all different sizes and were almost trapazoid like in shape...meaning the cutting was terrible. Wouldn't be able to be used on anything but a shelfer IMO. Now, I had them make tires for a 2.2 rim so they were a bit big and perhaps for smaller 12th scale stuff their cutting accuracy might be better and you'd have better luck...but that route just wouldn't work for me.

Good luck - hope this helps.

In the US try Calandra http://www.teamcrc.com/crc/modules.php?name=Shopping_Cart&file=category&category_id=64
Ufra Tyres will sell donuts direct to the customer http://ufra-tyres.ch/en/products

Schumacher, Ufra and Gecko donuts available from the UK as our oval classes still glue and true their tyres http://www.kamtec.co.uk/epages/BT4645.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/BT4645/Categories/Wheels_Tyres/Tyres_112
