Hey guys,
It's good to be back here at the forums, with something to show....I caught the rc bug again, and what a better way to comeback, than having a little project....

I drove to NY fron CT to pick this up, along with a nice rc10 gold pan, i came with a few new parts.

The first thing I was going to scrap was the body, but after giving it a once over, it was in good shape, although the paint was chipping off, so I decided to wrap It influorescent Orange vinyl, printed some decals on printable vinyl sheets, and we have a runner body, the wing is from a traxxas radicator that was worn out, so I re-shaped, trimmed and covered in vinyl also,bit looks half descent....

I have a new chassis on the way, and I'm still deciding what shoes it's going to wear....

Oops, the paint was chipping off....

I opened this thread hoping to see a Tamiya Falcon?

Although I do like the Fox, also.

Hahaha...fixed it, sorry for the disappointment, I do have a Tamiya Striker on the shelf waiting for some parts and some time, that's almost a falcon....

I had a Fox once, but at the time I didn't care for the handling. Don't recall if I sold or traded it. I do still have the manual and some spare parts for it laying around. I might even still have a spare body.

At my age....handling is the least of my problems, I'm going for nice and easy, gone are the days of super fast motors and the latest technology and in are the days of 540 silver cans and long running slow time....

but I didn't like those CVD's....

I hear you, I wish there was somewhere around here to run/race these things. I have fond memories of the box-stock races, those were my favorites. You were allowed to replace the plastic bushings with bearings, but that was it for mods. The super stock was ok too, but I never cared much for the unlimited class, that was a money throwing competition.

When I say I didn't like the handling of the Fox, what I really mean was that I never was great at driving a 2WD. I did want an RC10, but I did almost all of my RC time over in Japan, and that ran the cost of the Associated stuff WAY up while the Japanese stuff was cheap. I ran my Maxxum FWD in the 2WD class for a while, till it was outlawed.

I recall when I tried to get back into RC - I picked up and HPI RC4MT. Cleaned it up, added electronics, and off I went to the local track. Imagine my surprise to find out my car wouldn't make any of the jumps, and seemed way underpowered for the track. I headed off to my local Hobby Town to see what was up. The kid at the counter seemed perplexed that I might want a kit vs the RTR stuff, and seemed put out by the fact that most of the cars I have are older than he is. I attended one of the local races they had and quickly found out that if I wanted to hang with these guys, all my current stuff was about useless. So, I dropped out of RC again.

the fox also remains a one off car at a time where tamiya reused chassis for more then one application.
even the 959 chassis was reused with changes for the celica GR.B

Hm, I never though about, but you're right. Tamiya was always re-using chassis, sometimes without any changes but the body. But the Fox chassis was pretty unique. Heck, I converted my ThunderShot to a Terra Scorcher 'cuz I liked the look of the body better. And the dual front shocks vs the single on the TS.

That's why I like my Fox's so much, they are unique. Even the aftermarket parts were unique for the most part.

I was happy when they came out with the Re-Re Novafox, since it let me replace many of the parts that were getting harder to find. And they fixed some stuff as well.

Nice find, that definitely brings back some memories. We had a guy who used to clean up at our club races with a pretty heavily modified Fox. I believe he had a Thorp ball diff / dogbones with aftermarket suspension arms, Technacraft rims, turnbuckles, etc.

I wish I could remember the exact manufacturer but he also ran some super rare import oil shocks as well. They looked similar to Kyosho Option House Platinum shocks but were from Germany (?) if I remember correct. It was like BMC, or something like that. He was the only person I ever saw with the shocks and if I remember correctly they were ridiculously priced in the late '80s, like $75 a set.

Update:
- new chassis from the UK arrived
- discovered that the car had thorp dirt burner out drives and dog-bones
- had to ghetto rig a shock tower brace, since it was missing, or I discarded it by mistake...
- mock it all up with some wheels and tires from the parts box....

If anyone knows what wheels are on the back, please let me know....

Rear wheels are made by aristocraft/Hi-Tec. Your front wheels are from a falcon and kind of small for the fox which may make it handle differently.
