Five-hour Oil Change!?!?

Yeah, it took me that long today. I lost my oil filter wrench and had to buy a new one. There's no room around the filter to get anything on it. And the best part is that I didn't tighten it super tight the last time to prevent this from happening. :x

I've heard of some guys just jamming a screwdriver into the side to turn it. Doesn't really matter if you damage it since its garbage anyways. I have two ways to get my filters off - a standard filter wrench and a rubber strap type one.

I use this one and it works great! I have had it for years. The strap type just suck in my opinion.

X2.

They cost a lil bit more but since you can't get anything around it like a strap or regular type wrench and time is money these will save you ($)4-3/4 hours next time 8)

What I've found is that the wrench monkeys at the oil change stops and some dealers just tighten the filter down too hard. That's why I do it myself.

I ended up buying one similar to this since my filter sits vertical:

I've always used genuine Mitsu filters that have grease on the o-ring and never had this problem. And there's just enough room for my strap wrench, but not enough room to get your hand in there to tighten the strap. :x

Was this on an air cooled Porsche 911? If so I can relate. :)
