Melvin, I really appreciate everything you have said, it helps to reinstill a little of my faith in humanity. Regardless, history will inevitably repeat itself. There are forces on both sides fighting to ensure that happens.

We're not "turning away refugees"; we're talking about being thorough about screening them...not just bringing 'em in by the tens of thousands based on a pre-election, pre-Paris-bombing promise. That said, the western world simply cannot take in the whole farking middle east when ISIL runs amok. And when we do, we have to be VERY careful about screening out the bad apples...because you KNOW ISIL will be taking advantage of that opportunity to infiltrate, if we aren't extra vigilant. This isn't about being touchy-feely and all-trusting of our fellow man. Bad people are out there and it's foolish to think otherwise.

It seems the only answer I have is the same answer since the dawn of time. When you get pushed you dont push back, you throw a punch. People say it's not our fight, that's BS. If ISIS had jets, carriers, and tanks don't you think they would be at your front door? How far will the ones in power let this progress?

I just want to point out that I hate both republican war mongers and democratic socialists looking for utopia. But it seems that, in the USA, we must choose a side...

The footage I see is at European border crossings. Seems to be mostly men? Yet the women and children are sitting in tents at camps. Why are they not with "their" men? I know that I wold never leave my family behind! Would you Melvin? I don't think most people would do this regardless of beliefs.

With me showing the article how Canada, USA and Cuba treated the Jewish refugees. I was just trying to point out how times have changed. You can read into it anyway you want, but at least it gets you thinking! Seems man throughout history can never not F things up in one way or another. Mostly because they love repeating it!

Let's see how this all washes out in a few years! Just give it a bit to simmer!

Now where's my COD? I need to kill some zombies!

Yeah, unfortunately we never learn our lessons from history. Seems that all of this is about rich and powerful people trying to make themselves even more rich and powerful, at the expense of everyone else. Same story, different war.

The old timers around here know I was in NYC on 9/11 and saw it happen through an open window in lower Manhattan. Nothing will make you more angry and hate filled than seeing an airliner slice through a skyscraper, at least nothing I can think of. I was very angry for a long time. I started following world politics pretty closely on that day. It took a while, but eventually the hatred and fear began to fade. I realized that it was a waste of energy. A waste of life. Fear is no match for education. It's why organizations like IS destroy schools and make videos of beheadings to show the world. That's all they have. Put one of those guys on Jeopardy and he'd finish in the hole, lol.

On a semi-related note, I think the conversation between the two Sheriffs at the end of No Country For Old Men is pretty spot on, specifically:
"every time you try to get back what's been took from you, more is goin' out the door." and "you can't stop what's coming, it ain't all waitin' on you. That's vanity."

Coel, some people are talking about turning away refugees. Maybe not here. We have one of the hardest screening processes in the entire world. Bad people are everywhere. It doesn't mean we need to put up more fences and start the whole internment camp thing again. If you want to find bad people, look no further than our own government. Again, how did this whole situation get started? We don't have to look past Washington DC.

Anyway. In light of the Russian jet getting shot down today, let's hope Putin keeps his cool and we didn't just see the beginning of WW3. Turkey is a NATO country. If he strikes back, we're obligated to fight with Turkey.
