Thats not paint. Its a chemical treatment called anodizing. Basically they dip a metal part (like the tub chassis) in dye and run a current across it. The current attracts particals from the dye and bonds them to the surface of the metal. If you want to paint something to be the same sort of tint you can try mixing some colors together to make a color close to it. I'd start with mostly yellow and slowly add red a VERY small amount of green to "dirty" it down to that sort of goldish brown. Best thing to do is get a bnuch of small cups and mix small amounts (paying attention to what you put it) so that when you get the color your happywith you can mix a larger amount.

Close but, not really...it goes in two main stages, not really at the same time like you described.
1.In anodzing aluminum oxide is grown out of the surface and then becomes aluminum hydrate that is extremely hard.
2.The porous nature of the anodized layer allows the product to be dyed any color that is required.

I have seen this done in two fashions. One is to add the dye to the acid solution when anodizing. The other is to anodize then dip the part in a dye solution in hot water. Then rinse with cold to seal the pores and capture the coloring.
I guess either would word. I have seen good results using both methods.

I stand corrected. Only time i did it was electricity in the dye (in my case a glass of soda). Thank you sir.

Well...I guess I should have been more specific. Yes I know that the tubs were anodized. I just thought that surely someone from here has tried to paint a tub to match the gold anodizing. I thought about mixing different colors but that would only work if I had a sprayer to do the job (which I don't). I was hoping that someone would say....yes ....buy brand X...this color. Too bad it's not going to be that easy. Maybe I'll just live with some scratches in it.

If your touching up the pan the gold varied from dark to light and would have to be matched to your pan

another way is to hit a bodyshop supply that carries eastwood paints the gold anodizing paint is really close to the tubs, also deepens(color) with the number of coats you apply
