Hi, I'm a novice looking to restore some old Optimas (Chain and Mids). I am looking for some modern and readily available shocks that would fit the stock shock stays and be decent as a casual runner.
Also, has any one used an alternative body hook for the LWB under tray, or should I just use Velcro? The originals hooks/posts seem impossible to find.

The 3Racing damper set for the Kyosho Lazer ZX-5 will work with minor modifications, and are about $25 or less for a full set. Problem is they're getting hard to find now. Those are 93mm/73mm from the middles of the mounting holes for length, according to the online specs.
If you can't find those, the 3Racing dampers for the Tamiya DT-02 are nearly the same lengths, 90mm/70mm. I bet they could work but I've only used the Lazer ZX-5 set for one of my cars (see my CYANide build thread, linked in my signature). You can tweak the shock lengths quite easily by changing the ball-ends, and shorten them more (if necessary) by using some spacers inside, under the piston rings, which reduces the amount of shock travel--and therefore shorter overall uncompressed shock length.

Hey, thanks much for the response. I have actually been looking for the 3Racing lazer shocks but couldn't find any. I will try the DT version.

Hi, can anyone help?
I've recently purchased an chain driven optima and was told in the description that the seals and the clips on the shocks were broken?
Does anyone know where I can replace/rep as it these shocks.
Regards

Pargu makes nice aluminum clamp collars for those shocks, but they're a bit pricey. They'll never break though. Those red plastic ones are almost always cracked, it's practically impossible to find those intact anymore.

You might have even more trouble finding those little clear plastic ring seals, though.

I believe the clamps from the Re-re Scorpion shocks would work as well. Those can be had either directly from Kyosho or various sellers on Ebay.
