what's a good brushless basher motor for a 6-gear gold pan?

i don't want to destroy the 6-gear tranny. are 17.5T blinky motors about right or are even they too much torque?

17.5 is around a hopped up stock motor right or a mild modified?
build the 6 gear as per instructions, keep it clean and inspect the diff and balls frequently and you should be fine. bear in mind the 6 gear has no clutch, so hard landings and shock to the running system will damage the diff(like dropping with the motor driving the wheels).
also, having tires with low grip can act like a slipper clutch.

Gear ratio wise a 17.5 would suit the 6 gear well, since they have lots of torque. You could gear it down for less top end if you wanted, but another way to go is to use (or get) an esc with a throttle limit feature. I really like this, since it makes it easier on your tires by reducing burn-outs. I have a 17.5 geared 75/26 in a stealth(2.25:1 vs. 1.85:1 in a 6 gear) and it's really fast, and doesn't get hot at all. I'd assume you're running Lipo, but I'm new this year to them, and they seem to add 30% power over my blasted old NiMH's. My run times even geared as above are about 38 minutes on a 4000mah.

I had a 3300 kv brushless in my kids RC10 with a 6 gear (the AE one) until the tranny diff gears went. They were old and crusty and I knew they were going but figured it was no biggie. I rebuilt it and he ran it hard until we decided to upgrade and move to stealth.
One thing that works well in keeping the diff gears alive is using some diff grease inside. I'm sure I read here that some guys in the past used to run them with vaseline inside. But the regular diff grease seems to work just as well.
If you really are going brushless, just switch to stealth. They can take so much more abuse and aren't as complicated inside so rebuilds are much easier.

Chris, I already have a couple of stealth'd rc10's: a rere worlds and a classic worlds (more or less) that I built up out of parts. And I have a couple of spare stealth's lying around to boot.
The reason for the six-gear is its my original from 30 years ago when I was a first year college student. I even restored the battery cups to the original sideways lie. I want a stock gold pan with modern radio and brushless, since I am familiar with modern stuff now.
Iow, my reasons for the six-gear are emotional, not practical.
