I just got a jrx2 and one set of wheels are painted so i want to remove the paint. Any suggestions?
Will brake fluid damage the plastic?

some of those old wheels were dyeable which suggests they're nylon... if they are, nylon survives solvents as harsh as acetone. Best do a spot check; acetone dissolves ABS.

First question is what color are the wheels? As previously stated, the original light orange wheels are more of a "plastic" vs. nylon for the other wheels.

I have some Jrxt wheels that have been painted with Pactra orange and green lexan paint (same as on the body, lol). Any suggestions how I go about removing the paint with out damaging the other wise great condition of the wheels?

If DOT 3 (brake fluid) removes paint from lexan, it seems like it would also remove a lexan paint from nylon or ABS without destroying them. Have not done it but that's what's in my head.

In my experience, brake fluid has always removed paint. Sometimes more slowly than others, but always removed it. I have also never found anything that is damaged by brake fluid. But, maybe that is just my experience.

I tried DOT3 and DOT4 brake fluid to remove Pactra paint from an old body, and it didn't remove all the paint. Furthermore, it caused hazing in the Lexan. I don't know what it'll do to nylon, so test in a small inconspicuous area first. Pactra bonds extremely well to Lexan, ESPECIALLY with age. Nothing I've tried will fully remove Pactra from an old Lexan body...by nature, it's bonded to the Lexan, it's not a mere surface paint. On the good side, Pactra Lexan paint isn't meant for nylon wheels, so hopefully it can be removed a lot more easily than from Lexan...I'd try acetone, which is safe on nylon, but don't use acetone on ABS plastic (as tamiya already mentioned earlier).

The paint already flakes off a bit. The acetone shouldn't effect the shouldn't effect the orange color of the wheel?

those wheels I believe are 100% nylon, in which case the acetone would not harm them. For the sake of safety though, you might be better suited to using the brake fluid/. As far as I've seen, it does not hurt abs or blend type plastics, and if you can scratch the paint with your finger, you just need something to soften it, which the brake fluid will do. followed by a nice soap and water scrub.

also Purple Power degreaser will work on some painted plastics without hurting them. But some paints will not react.

Acetone will work on those wheels since they are nylon.

As for the purple power, I found that purple power will fade the wheels...giving them a thin white film...like if you sanded plastic. Also, if you leave the wheels in the purple stuff for too long, they will have a purple tint. I have experienced this personally

I smear them with brake fluid and leave them somewhere warm. After a couple of days and smear, the paint peels of.

I used brake fluid and scrubbing with a brush and it worked great.
