The silliest RC project I have ever done

So here in Portland, we have this thing every year called the "Pug Crawl." It's a fundraiser for the Humane Society, where basically a bunch of pug owners get together and make their dogs wear goofy outfits. We all drink beer and eat burgers and just have a good time.

This year, my wife came up with the idea of making our younger pug, Leeloo, drive a race car. She's no stranger to RC, as you can see in my gallery post on here, but this time, she was a little closer to the action, and, well, just check out the video halfway down this page...

Yep. Pug driving a car. Well, me driving a car, just off to the side. The rig consists of a $5 Power Wheels car off Craigslist, an old Tamiya ESC, a big high-torque servo to steer it, and some scrap corrugated plastic and spray paint. The hard part was training her to stay IN the stupid thing.

Now I'm just worried about what she's going to make me build next year...

 I love it! I'm a huge dog lover anyway, but when I see a dog in a situation like that, or wearing clothes (especially shoes) it always cracks me up. Looks like he's having fun. 8)

Thought you guys would get a kick out of it. We made sure to show people that she got in on her own (motivated by a cookie of course) so that no one would think she was being strapped in or anything. It took about a week of training her a little bit every night to get her to stay in there most of the time... as long as we kept up the cookie supply. Pugs will do anything for a treat.

I'll probably end up dismantling it, because I just don't have room to store it, and my Clod Buster wants its steering servo back. But I'll snap some pics of the setup before I do. What's funny is that these small Power Wheels for toddlers use a 550-size motor and a massive gear reduction, so a little Tamiya TEU-101 speed control worked fine for throttle. Goes about 5 mph, which was perfect for the parade.
