Avenger battery packs

BITD I remember running my poor old Avenger battery packs (even the hump pack in my Hornet) and trying to keep up with Trinity matched, pushed SCR packs. I never really knew much about them, just had them for some reason. I think someone gave me all their old used ones or something. I think I may have one somewhere, but don't really feel like digging it up at the moment to get a pic. I searched, and the only references to them I find on here are mine. Anyone know anything about them or who manufactured them? Just curious on everyone's thoughts.

I want to say I found a brochure for the battery in the box of my childhood RC10... I will check.

Please do. I hate to google anything before discussing it on here first, but my curiosity got the best of me. Nothing of what I remember turned up (not that I searched that hard). I'm certain I had a pack as late as last year, but I fear it may have been in an old RC10 box that was stored in our old shed that molded and I threw it and all of it's contents out. I'm hoping not though. I'll check tomorrow. I know they had a label on them that at least should have some manufacturer info.

Brilliant! Is that all they ever did r/c related? It seems like maybe ESCs would have been their thing too, although I've never heard of one.

For those that are curious too (And I'm just certain you all are!). Not real sure why I've held on to these when I consider all the stuff I've dumped over the years, but here they are. Unfortunately the labels on these are beyond legibility; probably from extreme heat from huge amp draw! 8)

Well, still looking for the brochure. I did find what I remember to be the remainder of the battery with reduced voltage for motor break in :D

Were these cells made before the P-170 SCRs?

I believe so... 1987~88??? The battery has no indication of type except "Panasonic NICD rechargeable battery."

I think so too because I'm sure the first used Hornet I bought came with them and that was roughly 1987. Probably very early '87 and they were already used, which means my guess would be they were produced originally in 1986. The kid I bought the Hornet (and batteries) from was one of my best friends and he was pretty wealthy. The only reason I knew him was because his grandma lived in my neighborhood and watched him while his parents worked. Seems trivial, but the reason I say that is because I think they were relatively high end when they first came out. Of course all of mine were used and whipped by the time I got them... :?

Yep! 88 or 89 I'm thinking. 1550 mah was there capacity...............had no punch, but not a bad entry level battery at the time.

I think you're way closer than me. I think I was about 12 when I got into R/C and that may be the case, but I think I had to be a couple of years older when I got my first hobby grade car. When I really think about it I remember having my Tyco indy car which was really a lot of fun, then my Sansui Cheetah which was an unbelievable disappointment :( and then my MRC Road Winner for my 8th grade graduation which was fast (at least to me) at the time, but only ran about 2 minutes on the generic pack I had at the time. I got my Hornet (and first Avenger) shortly after that which must have been right around then because I think my 8th grade yearbook had 88-89 on the cover. That makes me 14-15 which just doesn't seem right. I must have gotten into it hot and heavy quickly because I know I was completely addicted to r/c way before I ever got my driver's license.
