Hi my name is Mike , I'm from Az.
I stumbled on to a pretty clean RC10 CE gold tub a few years ago , at my local hobby shop, for $50.

I was not into RC cars back in the good old days , but I had heard lots of the old time racers talking about the old gold tubs , so I thought it would be cool to buy it, and clean and restore it .

I did not know that there was such a big following for these old RCs till I found this web site , which I think is pretty cool.

Now that I've been looking at all the other members shelf queens and restorations , I finally got the bug to start my RC10 CE restoration.

The following pictures are what the car looked like when I got it.

Here's some Pictures of all the parts, after I took it all apart and cleaned every thing the best that I could.

Absolutely professor Scr8p. I think this shock tower is now very hard to find in good shape. To restore my CE, I had to make a repro.

Hey guys I got the basic running chassis done, here's some pictures.

I also have some Questions.

I know AE. still has some stock parts available, but it seems that they are all black, is that correct ?

Does the front and rear shock towers that AE still sells come white or black ?

I saw some pictures on Tower of some of the parts, some of the items I would like to replace with new, would be the turnbuckles and white ball cups , which in the picture I saw on Tower, they looked like newer style turnbuckles and black ball cups.

Also I would like to replace the white steering rack, and the white battery tray , with new if possible.

Some of the local racers that I know said they may still have some original parts that they would look for.

I'm probably going to start looking on line and Ebay for the parts that I need , what would be the high & low price of the following Items .
1 original turnbuckles & ball cups.
2 '' white steering rack.
3 '' white battery tray.
4 also that original 4 hole front shock tower that you guys said is pretty hard to find.

next question has anyone found a touch up paint that would match the gold tub well enough to at least make the small scratches disappear ?
I tried to find some Testers model paint that would match, but I was not able to.

I was wanting to set up the battery and electronics like modern buggy's, like I've seen some other people do, but I noticed that when you try to place the battery tray in line with the square opening in the rear bulk head, that there are not any holes that line up.
Are people drilling new holes to line up the battery tray with the bulk head ?

If so would that be a terrible thing to do to a nice original gold tub ?

PS. one more ? what size thread is the diff. and spur shaft ? It's not a 4/40.

Nice car, great job on the resto. The diff nut I beleive is 5-40
as for your parts

3: 20-30
4: I have not seen one recently

As for mounting the battery cup, I just use the 2 holes that are there even thouth they are not perfectly lined up with the rear. I'd hate to drill an otherwise nice chassis.

if you want white parts, you'll have to get them from somebody in this forum, or ebay. Tower has most the parts, but they are black. With exception of the shock towers, they are still white fiberglass.

The forward battery cup holes were not intended to be used initially, as the car came with a mechanical speed controller. If you're doing your resto "by the manual" the battery should be placed sideways using two cups. Later CE chassis did have inline battery cup holes, following the Team and Graphite cars.

Your four hole front tower looks nice, and would be difficult to find NIP. The other white parts you are looking for are out there, but the original "half round" style ball cups are getting increasingly difficult to find. Don't toss your old ones! ra272 posted some pics of turnbuckles and early ballcups that he restored to a very nice condition:

As far as touching up the chassis, maybe look into the Tamiya paints, shodog used something to do the centers on Tecnacraft and JPS wheels.

Oh, and the red springs didn't come out for several years after your car was made. It would have come with gold and silver sets. Tires should be TQ21 spike rear and TQ71 three rib front...

I think your resto is pretty darn nice. A little sign or two of actual use is ok in my book.

Thanks for the Info . If someone were to find a NIP original 4 hole shock tower , how much do you think it would be worth ?

Since it just going to be a shelf queen , I think I'm just going to use some thin clear servo tape to hold down the battery cups.
