So a guy I race with saw my blackfoot(all original from '87) in the background of a pick i posted on our racing thread. Next thing I know he shows up at my house with a blackfoot and monster beetle. They are dirty but darn near complete. Also have nice vintage electronics in. So today i begin the stripping of the 2 to see what I have and what is needed. Pics to come shortly. Oh and also w stingray corvete bodies from the era. They have bad paint jobs but no cracks at all . Pretty stoked for this free stuff.

Frog shocks. Under that paint is some nice aluminum that should polish up well

yup, but they don't work very well.

some new tamiya black cva's will work well on there, same as the old yellow shocks.

Perfect didn't realizevthey are aluminum, perfect for a shelf queen. Kaiser, I do know of the cva shocks, but these aren't gonna be runners. However Ivdo use them (cva shorts) on my crawler builds.

also FWIW neither of those are a monster beetle. one just has monster beetle wheels and tires.

the MB would have a rear skid plate, rear side mount body mounts and said yellow cva's along with the gold wheels and spiked tires.

Those Vette bodies may also be Bolink. I remember buying one in the 80's after I saw the movie "The Dead Pool", they were very wide bodies from what I recall.

tamiyadan wrote:no the Xlt body has quite a few differences from the blackfoot body.

Tamiya took the XLT body molds and modified them for the blackfoot.

the XLT body also had 2 known revisions, tamiya elongated the front wheel wells on the xlt to try and keep the front tires from dragging the body.

the front rims also had 2 revisions a wide offset and a narrow offset, again to try and fix the tires from dragging the body when turning.

the Xlt body had cut outs in the back for the on-off switch and antenna.

there was a support that was molded into the body of the xlt to help support and stabilize the body on the rear roll cage which had a flat top shape compared to the other srb buggies, this includes the hole for the body mount as well.

the body was molded in blue instead of black, and the windows were clear compared to black tinted on the blackfoot.

so shape wise the XLT ranger and blackfoot is the same model year truck but there are quite a few differences. many people have used blackfoot and super blackfoot bodies with modifications on the XLT but you can tell quite easily when that occurs.

i believe tamiya used the 1980 ford ranger model year step side for the body.

the xlt was released: October of 1981.

i also forgot the XLT did not have a rollbar and lights. that was exclusive to the blackfoot and the generations after the blackfoot.
there was not rollbar mounts on the xlt body.
nice...thanks tamiyadan..thats alot to remember when considering buying a old srb ford ranger body...
