Victor Super IQ Brushed Motor Break In

Using my Super IQ to break in a brushed motor. I've had this thing for 20 years or more and it still works like a champ.

Thanks for the kind words. It's probably a lot easier to tape two double aa's together and run that for five minutes on a brushed motor with no load. These chargers are few and far between. It's a great piece of RC history so if you find one, definitely pick it up.

I have the super iq jr and the motor break in does not require a battery. It's break in process is also different. On the jr it slow ramps up the rpm and then cycles the ought a range of rpms

a stock brushed motor race tip :

use a polish compound like alum rim polish and thin it out to the thickness of milk and while the motor is breaking in dab some polish onto the brass bushings and work it into the bushing buy pushing the shaft back and forth .. you will hear the motor slow down and the polish get black

after its broken in give the motor a good cleaning with brake cleans and relube the bushings

what it does is more or less is line bore the motor bushings so they are perfect strait and a polished finish ... you will gain alot of power and rpm by doing this

You know, for every other motor, that's what this one did too. I think it didn't this time because it's the first time I used a LiPo instead of a 7.2 volt pack. I'll have to experiment. Not too worried as it was only giving it 1.5 amps anyways.

Great tip. Never done this before so I'll have to give it a try.

Used to have a Super IQ2 myself about 15 yrs ago. Shop I worked at closed and it was going to be left behind so I gave it a home. Can't for the life of me remember where it went to. Looooonnnnggg gone.

I was actually scared to use it for a while because it had a habit of killing batteries and a few new motors. Although the batteries were bastard packs put together with whatever equal capacity cells I could find. And the motor was a brand new D3 that the comm blew apart on. Manufacturing flaw apparently.
