I got this manual with a new built TQ10 I recently purchased, it also came with some cool Reedy documents,

15 seconds? This 6 gear tranny should freely turn for 15 seconds? I get about 3.

it all depends on your bearings, and the gear mesh. good bearings go a long way. you try cleaning them and oiling them up?

You may also take a good close look at your idler gears and clean up any rough spots and burs. In my opinion that's where you can make the biggest difference.

switching to the black idlers could help too.

The bearings are original but they have little wear. They have been oiled. When I built the transmission years ago I sanded down the idler gears to make a nice mesh. I saw the new black ones and wondered if they would be better. I even considered a higher ABEC number for the bearings but don't think they make them his small. They are not the sealed bearings but back then they were around half what the car cost. I also shaved some plastic off the case so the outdrives don't hit it. But like I said I get about 3 seconds max. Years ago when I bought the car a friend of mine said he got his so smooth he could blow on the gear and make it rotate!!

If it's attached to a motor mount(which I would assume it is)you may try backing off the long allen screws that attach the tranny case to the mount just a hair(not enough so they come loose though). Sometimes if they are over-tightened they seem to pinch the gears and cause drag. My guess is that the plate inside the tranny sometimes doesn't seat itself straight in the mold and causes the gears to be at a slight off-set.

It turns the same so there isn't any binding. When the say 15 seonds is that just by spinning the outdrives or is that with the tranny mounted and tires attached? I'm doing it by spinning the outdrives with no tires attached. But you guys get 15 seonds worth of spin? That would almost seem like a lifetime to me!!

I keep one on my desk here at work as sort of a stress reliever and I'd say it spins 7-8 seconds. I know it is very free-spinning so 15 would have to be with the weight of some tires helping out. I wouldn't stress over it, just so it doesn't feel as though it's binding.

i have the same deal at home. i look at it from time to time. its got so much crap inside it gets me thinking on how to tinker with it. making it a little more efficient. sure kills the time too
