My Vintage Schumacher Projects

Hi All,
I'm pretty new to RC10Talk, but know quite a few of you from the vintage section on Oople.

Thought I'd start a thread here and share some of my Vintage Schumacher projects (I always find I get more done on these projects during the winter, so maybe there will be some more progress to show soon!)

Most of my collection have been in my possession since new or nearly new, from when I raced as a kid, but I have acquired a few additions - its funny how one project leads to another!

I have my original ProCAT converted to a brushless & Lipo runner now, but its pictured here as it was when I dug it out of the loft, complete with dirt from its last event in Taunton in 1990. I almost didn't want to clean it up!

More recently I have restored my CAT SWB, with probably 90% new parts, as you can see its pretty mint now.

Next up will be an XL, then an an XLS and then perhaps I'll do something with the other two ProCATs I've got lying in bits!
I've acquired a Tanaplan ProCAT chassis set in with a parts bundle and a fibrelyte SWB chassis set, so maybe a SWB runner for a laugh?...

Let me know if you want to see more!

(struggled a bit getting pics to upload, so hope this works OK!)
:D

It´s hard not to like the SWB, even when beating the c... out of my MID.
Very clean example You´ve got.

Show us that Tanaplan and FibreLyte chassis :D

Here's the Tanaplan chassis set.
Not sure whether to use this for a ProCAT build or if the standard chassis would be more sought after?

More car pics later...

Here's my old racer ProCAT in its current form.

It runs an 8.5 brushless motor, with saddle lipos.
Saddle nests are from a Schumacher SV2 with some custom carbon mounts to avoid needing to drill the standard chassis.
I've also made a custom slipper which uses an SV2 spur and slipper pads on a shaft from an original period Schumacher slipper.
I've made carbon, ballraced steering arms for it and its currently got more modern CAT SX shocks on it.

It goes very well, hope to run it against Derbydans ProCAT at Silverstone soon!
(Let me know when you're bringing yours out to play Dan?)

Hi Nigel.... good to see your vintage Schumachers over here on RC10Talk... I love the shots of your ProCat in period trim (& period mud  )

As for having a ProCat 'show-down' - name your date & i'll make sure my car is ready... I'm racing this Tuesday

I've carefully set aside all the period bits so it can go back as it was, but that mud is gone forever!
:(

Let's have a chat tomorrow about getting a vintage heat together, we can get James to bring his mid out, and there was a guy running a YZ10 a few weeks back, we can rope him in I'm sure.
:)

Yeah I think the guy with the YZ-10 was Anthony Hill (a well known name in R/C in this area from the very early days of R/C racing up to the early 90s) I'm sure we could rope Chris Giles (Jiffy) in on it also 8)

Yes, it was Anthony, his name had escaped me earlier.
What's Jiffy got in the shed then?

Foley could be tempted to wheel out a CAT or possibly even an Intruder ;)

So, here is my Fibrelyte Short Wheelbase Chassis and top deck.
Starting to think about building a runner SWB CAT with a modern twist, kind of the evil twin to my mint standard SWB!
