Need help/info on Lethal Weapons and using Brushless motors

Not sure where to ask so I'll do it here.

I have sold LW's for Kingcabs, RC10's, Ultimas, Astutes and Traxxas TRX-1 lately, I always have people asking what size brushless motor will it handle? Personally I do not know as I have not raced in yearssssssss. So if you have purchased a LW and run modified brushless motors what is your experience?

I personal believe that if the slipper is set correctly it should be able to handle most motors. My experience in racing is that landing hard off long jumps is where most belt failures occurred. Tires rotation speeds way up, car slows down in the air which results in a sudden slow down of the tires at landing - the stuck has to go somewhere. If the slipper is set correctly it stops there and does not get to the belt and top pulley.

So I am looking for motor sizes that that are currently safely being run on LW's, Thanks Daryl

not really sure what the traxxas vxl is spec-wise right off the top of my head but have run a stock vxl on 3 cell without any problems. Have to agree also that if the slipper is set correctly there shouldn't be any issues. I might've had my trx1 set up a bit tight on the slipper and it had no issues with belt failure.
I know its not a high quality race set up but hope that lil bit of info helps...

Thanks Todd - all info helps. Back when Chris and I where racing I mostly ran stock class and Chris ran mod. He once ran a twister 9 turn with seven cells and no issues. But he was a really smooth driver - not sure how that set compares with todays brushless motors and Lipos?

well that doesn't describe my on/off switch I use for a throttle response so take it as you will on that one

Todd, a VXL on 3S? Daryl, if it handles that, it should take just about anything a 2S lipo racer can throw at it.

The VXL motor is 3500 KV, so maybe around a 10.5, but since Traxxas uses a 19mm rotor (I think), and standard race based motors are 12.5 to 13 mm in size (much less torque comparatively), it puts a lot more stress and strain on the drivetrain. Now boost that monster with 11.1v instead of just 7.4v (I did destroy a 6 gear trans with VXL and 2s, but it was my fault :) ) and you are talking some serious abuse.

I have a LW, and a 10.5 I put in it, but have yet to hit the track with it. Sounds like I need to get crackin'!

Thanks JK - I would be interested in an up-date once you get on the track!

Since my LW is out of an Ultima, what do I need to change to drop it into my RC10? I did test fit the dog bones, they are no bueno.

You need a complete stealth diff and instructions and a few parts from our new RC10/stealth diff tranny. I will go through and instructions and make up a list for you.
